Oh my, wow is about all I can say. I'm 28w4d today and am measuring 31w4d. Granted I understand that ultrasounds are just estimates but still. He had been measuring a week ahead at all previous ultrasounds but not 3 weeks. He's 3lbs. something (I missed the ounces, was too shocked at the 3 weeks).I have a dr. appt. on Monday so we'll see what they say and if they'll move my due date.
They shouldn't change your due date at this point. Like car seat said, there is some variation in the size of babies, just like there is in all people. I was consistently measuring 4 weeks ahead with DS. When I delivered him at 38 weeks, he weighed 8lb 7oz, so he wasn't huge at all. Nothing to worry about
Agreed about the development of the lungs, etc. I was trying to explain that to my husband that even if he's physically measuring larger doesn't mean he's ready. I was a big baby when I was born - 9lbs 12 oz - so it's not like he doesn't come by it honestly. He has a large head (compliments of my husband) which could be throwing things off too. He'll come when he comes though...
@moo72, I should point out that DS was born at 38 weeks due to my being diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, not because I went into labor on my own at 38 weeks. Measuring ahead did not change my due date, and in fact DS had to spend his first 36 hours or so in the NICU. That's why @car seat is saying they should not change your due date just because you are measuring ahead now. You don't want the baby to be born any earlier than they should be.
I'll throw in my cautionary tale... DS was measuring big on u/s just hours before I delivered. At 37 weeks they estimated he was over 8 lbs and he was only 6 lbs 15 oz! He was long so the femur measurement threw them off. I would not let them change my due date at this stage... It can affect lung development.

And he did not come on his own .. Distress/reduced fetal movement due to meconium meant c/s to get him put fast. He collapsed a lung and spent 5 days in nicu.
My DD is measuring 3 weeks ahead My OB told me it means nothing. I'm just carrying high with baby #2.

Baby Sweets born on her due date!
My son always measured 3-4 weeks ahead. When I went into pre-term labor, they did everything they could to stop it. They would not let me deliver early, and they would not release me from the hospital until I was 36 weeks. I was told by multiple doctors and specialist that his size had nothing to do with how he was developing. My son was born close to 37 weeks and I still think he could have baked longer. We really struggled with nursing and jaundice. Also, I asked every doctor I came in contact with whether his size had anything to do with the pre-term labor and every time I got a confident 'no'.
They think my little girl is 5 pounds right now (I'm 32 weeks). She is measuring several weeks ahead. I cannot remember how many weeks, because I couldn't get over the 5 pounds. I talked to the doctor on Wednesday about her size and they are not moving my due date and will do everything possible to stop any labor before 36 weeks. (I don't want the to move my due date, the only reason we were discussing any of it is because of how low she is sitting and how much weight she is putting on my cervix that continues to shorten)
I would let that baby bake as long as you can and not rush it. While a week or 2 early sounds great when you are at the end of your pregnancy, it is really not that long in the big scheme of things.
DS1 measured 3 weeks ahead on the u/s but was only 7 lb 8 oz at birth (induced at 39 weeks).
I had an ultrasound a couple of weeks ago and the first head measurement they took put him at 4 weeks ahead. They took a second measurement about 10 minutes later after he'd moved around a bit and he was only measuring 1 week ahead. It's SO easy for it to be off by a LOT.
I agree with PPs that you shouldn't think about changing your due date because 1) the ultrasound could EASILY be wrong, and 2) you want to make sure your baby is fully developed.
I had similar thoughts when I found out last week that LO was 3 lbs 3 oz at 28 weeks. But, like @carseat said, that doesn't mean that his insides are more developed or measuring ahead. Like PP's all said, my due date hasn't changed or anything.
Were you a big baby? I was my mother's smallest at 9lbs 2oz and my siblings were all over 10 pounds. None of us came early. I wasn't entirely surprised to hear that my LO is somewhat large.
Another thing: Perhaps our LOs are just getting bigger earlier? Who knows. Yay for big babies!
I just got home from my 30 week checkup and am measuring 4 weeks ahead. My dr wasn't overly worried but had me schedule an ultrasound to check measurement and if LO is still breech....
My midwife likes to remind me that EDD is just that, an estimate. And not to take it too seriously. I'm due Feb 12, so she basically said to expect the baby sometime in February. I know this relaxed attitude isn't what you hear from everyone, but I'm actually more comfortable with it. I had one dating ultrasound back in July, since I had zero idea of when I got pregnant (long story) but other than that, I'm leaving it alone.
I agree with what a pp mentioned, that all babies grow at different rates, and are different sizes. I'm just hoping mine doesn't come out at 14 pounds, like the one they keep talking about on the news. My vagina and I have nightmares about that!

This is different. Measuring off track with fundal height is much different than measuring off track with ultrasound.
She's also measuring ahead by US (my last one was two weeks ago).
My OB doesn't do anything based on USnds. He said they're pretty inaccurate (for growth measurement) at this point anyway.

The week my son was born, they did an U/S and said he was right at 6 lbs. He was born 2 days later and was 8lbs 2oz 21.5 inches long (this was at 38 wks pregnant). We're sure of my due date because I had some fertility treatments to conceive.
I wouldn't take too much stock into the ultrasounds measurements.
