**WARNING** Graphic content!!

Sorry Ladies, but this was too funny not share. I apologize in advance to anyone who doesnt share this type of sense of humor or who is planning on a beautiful - natural- non drug birth- I tip my hat to you and have the utmost respect for that decision! These videos are probably NOT for you... I just happened to come across these two extreme opposite Videos and had to share. I'll explain why:

My DH has been advised numerous times by his lady boss that natural birth is the way to go. in her words more or less- "go with nature! we are all animals with instincts! it is a huge accomplishment as a woman to go through the beauty of delivering a baby the way God intended us to, amazing experience I strongly suggest your wife should try" he happened to mention to her about us going to Lamaz class and she was totally against it and said that we should of taken classes at the institute of Bradley(you can google it- seems like special classes convincing women that natural/medicated is the way to go).
Anyway, she mentioned this numerous times to my DH, so he finally came to me and asked me... you think you would be interested? is it so bad to try it?

I said.. you know what, lets take a quick look at youtube and find some videos showing natural birth and one with Epidural and see the difference.

The Natural ("ITS BURNING!!!") Video- again, Warning- graphic, and loud, you should prolly not watch if your around people lol
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37OhkIO8SDk or search  in youtube- Mother Giving Birth to Newborn Baby - Vaginal Natural Birth in Hopstial

With Epidural (" I Like your Earrings") Video- this is less graphic, note her reaction to receiving the baby Vs. the natural... lol its just hilarious.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5jhGeCY-gY8 or search in youtube- *PART 1* Labor & Delivery with Epidural & watch Part 2

PS- for Part one- you can just skip the beginning and get to the getting ready to push part, its kinda long.

After watching these- through half closed eyes for the first one... DH was hysterically laughing and asking why would anybody not want epidural??? it looks amazing! lol so the answer here is clear for me ladies!

  • I think these are both beautiful depictions of birth. Every woman is different and every birth is different. You can find just as many videos showing women screaming with an epidural, or calmly delivering med-free. There are so many factors to consider when you are deciding whether to get an epidural, I wouldn't make a decision on what choices I want to make based on one single video (not saying that is what you are doing.)

    TTC #1 since 9/10

    BFP #1- 1/15/13 EDD: 9/23/13 Early M/C- 1/18/13

    BFP #2- 5/8/13 DS- 1/10/14
    Anniversary

  • not shaming at all! I really just happend to stuble on these two videos. Please read what I said above in my intro. I'm preggo just like you and who knows what kind of birth I'm going to go through. But it doesn't hurt to spice up this board alittle!  Again, you didn't have to watch if you dont agree and obviously choose to go natural and epi free. There are nicer videos out there that are more beautiful if you search. I just thought it was funny that I found these two to show DH. That's all!

DH's aunt believed for the LONGEST time that baby's really were delivered by storks. In her defense, she does has some kind of mental disability. She has 2 kids (I think it's just two, they're adults now) so I'm pretty sure she's aware now that that's not quite true hahah

  • I was induced and had an epidural with my first and was in waaaay more pain than they depicted in the video. I was so drugged up and out of it

My point is, women react differently. Some women do better with a natural birth, some needs the meds. Can we all just agree to shoot our babies out in one piece?

  • @predempsey So I can have as many stork babies as I want as long as I pay the one time joiner fee?
  • The only thing that's burning right now are my eyes from reading this post which, OP, you must have realized would stir up drama. I'm going to go take a nap because I don't give two shits what kind of birth other moms choose. Do what works for you, ladies.

First of all, not everyone's birthing experience is the same as the ones in these videos.
For example, with DS, I had a fairly short (12-13 hour) unmedicated labour. When I got to 10 cm, it was 11 minutes and 3 pushes. I wasn't butt ass naked either, I had a gown on.

Secondly, Why the hell are you watching these videos on YouTube? If you think it's going to prepare you for childbirth...

It's probably like one of those theme park souvenir cups. You pay extra but the refills are free.
Ah dang.  I was hoping for a different basket with each kid.

  • OHHHH Pleeeeeease... give me a break!! I feel like I'm the Howard Stern of the Bump here lol I just always come off as rude and offensive to everyone... yet somehow your all watching and reading anyway...were you reading?? or just watching?? I thought my intro was pretty clear :-/

This is ridiculous. Nobody can laugh around here?? those videos are obviously extreme opposites. Everything's gotta be a serious issue? and who are you kidding- those who say don't watch these videos... thats your prerogative. You choose to watch what you want... if that means watching birds flying their babys to their nest... in the end we all are going to go though something different. My SIL thought she was getting an epi and ended up going natural because it was too late for her to take it. That's another story... everybody has a different story I am FULLY AWARE! I went to Lamaz class and read books and watched videos...and I'm here reading your posts and participating. I believe being exposed to everything is power!

  • I just...I...sigh.

So many things I could type out for this. If this is what helped you and your DH make a decision then fine, but really?? REALLY?? Two youtube videos and that's all the info you need eh?

Honestly I don't see the point of this post other than to make fun of a woman who put her birth on the interweb and not-so-silently laugh about something you clearly don't know ANYTHING about.

  • Yeah, see the "I'm not trying to be offensive but..(Insert offensive statements/videos/what have you)" format doesn't really fly around here. If you've really spent as much time reading our posts and participating as you say, you'd know that. You'd also know not to start a med-free vs. epi commentary post. I'm glad you're aware every one has a different story, so, that's why i'm confused as to why you think it's ok or funny to make comments like "why would anybody not want epidural??? it looks amazing!"

I didn't watch the videos you posted, because if I wanted to watch birthing videos, I would have googled it awhile ago. I am not sure why you felt the need to post it here, with your disclaimer, thinking that you were going to bring people to a revelation. And nobody laughed, well because it isn't really funny.

  • Pft!  IMO panties are getting in a bunch for no reason.  Speaking from experience(I'm on pregnancy #5), all four of my births have been different beginning to end.  With the first two I had no epidural(both very different and very painful), 3rd one I had the epi and it was so so so easy and the 4th one the epi went awry and it was completely different than 1,2 or 3....again.  FTMs please know that there really is NO way to know how your delivery will progress and what kind reaction or tolerance you will have to ANYTHING!  I've always thought the worst fear is fear of the unknown and everyone of us is a passenger on that boat right now.

Best wishes and best of LUCK to all mamas and LOs.  Because in the end(preexisting conditions aside) its just dumb luck!

@Nviener28... I'm going to pretend you said "UNMEDICATED" and not "NATURAL" because I think by your OP, you've stirred the pot enough without touching that debate AGAIN!

You must be a FTM, especially if you speak so highly of these Lamaz classes, books, and videos. Any STM + can tell you, that shit goes flying out the window when push comes to shove.

**see what I did there push and shove ;) **

Yeah, I'm pretty sure no one around here thinks watching birthing videos is "funny" or "hilarious." We laugh at a ton of stuff (See the mucus plug thread) but the way a woman chooses to give birth isn't funny.

It should be plainly obvious to you that we don't share your sense of humor. Especially considering a thread was posted earlier today by my girl @ccip82 who is really struggling with her decision between a VBAC and an RCS. Posting stupid shit like this to get a couple of "LOL OMG your so funny" comments isn't worth the damage it could cause to people who are actually trying to make serious decisions about their health.

    Love you @KaitiMac

I am reading this thread as I put together mother effing cupcake toppers for DD's birthday party tomorrow.  (You totally caught me dirty lurking BTW)  Luckily, I think I have a little more common sense than to base my birthing decision off of videos I found on youtube....

This is exactly the point everyone is trying to make, they aren't getting their panties in a wad.  OP came in basically saying, "You should do it this way! Look!  It's so much better!  You are dumb to try it any other way!"  Every person and every pregnancy IS different, and we don't need someone who posts so little that she doesn't get the atmosphere of the board telling us how we should and shouldn't give birth.

  • I didn't watch or even read the OP because epidurals, med-free and spinals for c/s make me insanely squeamish. I'm one week away from major surgery and pretending like I don't have to do anything "yucky"

@Nviener28, The culture around here is definitely something to learn before posting in controversial ways. Being funny, or thinking that you're funny isn't always (or very often) well received.

Perhaps a funny gif would've helped... Or a reference to snap chat ;)

Again, that's me trying to be funny.. Now watch!

@tootsscott, you do understand that simply adding a GIF or a reference to snap chat would not, in fact, change the reaction to this thread -- right?

ETA: It's comments like this that prove to me (and probably others) that you truly don't *get it* yet.
  • Interesting.
I'm actually pretty sure DD's med-free "natural birth" was more like the lady with the epi.  I did not scream or anything like that.  She was out in 20 minutes, and it definitely didn't take that long for me to deliver the head.
I've heard horror stories from friends of mine (thank goodness I wasn't at their births) who had an epi and were much much worse off then I was.  So I think each birth is different anyways, whether or not we choose to go med-free.  I hadn't completely intended going med-free with DD, I walked in there saying I'll do whatever I need to do. But things went surprisingly quickly and the shower worked wonders for me that by the time I wanted meds I was going through transition and it was too late.

I read toots post like she was being sarcastic. Not that she seriously thought those things would make a big difference.

I think Toots post made it pretty clear she was being sarcastic. For example: the winking emoticon and jokingly predicting a negative response.

This is all true! Except what peanut said!
