Quick (re)Intro and a question

Hello everyone.  I just had my 2nd daughter on Dec. 3...17 years and 4 days after my first.  I feel like I've never done this before.

So far, she has been eating and sleeping very well.  She is eating 3 ozs every 4 hours, mixed breast milk and formula. While she is awake, I interact with her by reading, and singing to her which she enjoys as it calms her right down on the rare occasion she does start to cry (like when she has her diaper changed, which she hates).

After sleeping 2-3 hours, she'll wake up with one of her eyes a little crusty.  Sort of like pink eye, but she doesn't have any other symptoms.  I have been wiping her eye with a damp, warm face cloth, but I'm not sure how to clear it up. Any advice?

(We do have a doctor's appointment for her on Dec. 17 to follow up on weight gain, so if it isn't gone by then I'll be able to ask, but in the meantime I'm worried it's uncomfortable for her.)

Re: Quick (re)Intro and a question

  • I've heard a few moms talk about blocked tear ducts that sound like that may be what's wrong with her eye based on what you're describing. Search blocked tear duct or there's a post somewhere below recently someone asked about. They suggest placing drops of breast milk in the eye to help...otherwise if that's not what it is then consult your Dr..

  • Sounds like a blocked tear duct to me as well. It's nothing serious and can last for several weeks to months. Look up tear duct massage. It's super easy to do and move the clog out.
