Cancelled

Hi Everyone,
So @Manada and I went in to see the RE today, which is day 9 of my stimming cycle (8 days of stimming behind us). As I mentioned in a post on Thursday, we found out Thursday afternoon that we were at risk of being cancelled because my ovaries were not responding well to this protocol (because of my endo or because I was on BCPs for 6 months or for some other reason). I moved up to 300 gonalf on Thursday and Friday to see if it would help.

The good news-- Manada's lining was beautiful at 10.5 so she's having no trouble building her estrace lining and probably could have competed with @2mamazinseattle and @ball.and.chain when they were having their lining competition previously.
Also, I responded well to 300 gonalf and my follicles were picking up and my estrogen was up to 1300 (from 371 two days ago).

The not great news-- We were still looking at a situation where we would retrieve only 5-7 eggs. The RE said that it was no longer a cycle that she would recommend cancelling but she also understood why we had concerns about going forward. We are OOP for the IVF, but if we cancel before retrieval we only pay drugs because the previous appointments are billed through Ontario health insurance. We have insurance for the drugs, but we can only afford on full cycle of IVF. If we retrieved 5 or 7 eggs and half fertilized and half made it to blast, we might very well get a pregnancy, but there would be no guarantee of having any remaining blasts for a second transfer if we miscarried or when we want to have a second child. Obviously there are never guarantees even with higher retrieval numbers, but the chances are better.

Anyway, we decided to cancel our cycle. The RE supported our decision.

M will now take Provera to get her period and we will go in on her day 2. I think it will be to start BCP for her but we were a little confused with all the information today. I will wait to get a period naturally, which should occur in approximately 2 weeks, since my lead follicle is already at 16. Then I will start BCP for 14 days. For the last 7 days of that, I will also do lupron. I'm not sure exactly what the protocol is after that, but the RE was talking about 300 gonalf and 150 repronex. We would most likely be looking at a mid-January retrieval.

The way it's working out isn't all bad. Of the board regulars doing IVF and FETs, we can now aim for at least 4 months in a row with IVF/FET BFPs-- @KH826 in October, @ball.and.chain in November, @2mamazinseattle in December (fingers crossed for you!!), and us in January. Others are totally welcome to join and/or continue the streak. And I hope that lots of IUI and ICI folks get in on the BFP action.
****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)

I echo others responses, it does stink, but it sounds like you made the difficult right decision.

I also appreciate you sharing so much information in your posts.  I have learned so much about IVF on this board.  I thought I have a general idea about it before and realized I was totally clueless :-)

Ugh sounds like you both had to make a really tough decision - but one that will hopefully give you the best long term outcome. I love the idea of a 4 month IVF baby boom :-) I'll be keeping all fingers and toes crossed for you in January.

First, I applaud you for making such a tough choice. We used proven, young donor eggs and got 4 embryos out of 19 retrieved...the attrition is very real. And, with four we thought our chances of two kids was really good...and here we are putting #4 in on Monday and no babies to show for the other 3. As a relatively impatient person, I would've probably not had it in me to cancel even knowing the facts! Congrats on the hard decision.

@manada, way to bust out a lining! When that lil' embryo is ready, you will be sitting pretty with a welcoming vessel. This is great news! My doc once told me that "we can do a lot to make a healthy embryo, but if the uterus can't support it we have bigger problems" - yay for you!

I'm so so sorry you are having to wait, but I have taken a 'no regrets' approach to IF, and I think your choice today is a smart "no regrets" approach. FX for a bigger better clutch of eggs next cycle!
