January 2014 Moms

Did you know...

I love random facts. Did you know that Flo from the Progressive commercials was on season 1 of Mad Men and an episode of House?

Or that Will Smith was offered the role in the Matrix but turned it down? Gwyneth Paltrow was supposed to play Rose on Titanic... I could go on. Anyone else?

  • ....did you know that the band Toto was supposed to do the theme song to Top Gun (Highway to the Dangerzone, currently sung by Kenny Loggins)? Toto was the band that sang Rosanna and Africa. I can't picture it in my mind.

    Now that's totally random, ha.
  • Ooh I just found this out the other day (as I googled something about Thre Family Stone when it was on TV) - both Billy Crudup and Aaron Eckhart were cast in the role of Everett before dropping out. And get this- Johnny Knoxville was supposed to play Ben. WTF? Haha

Leonard also plays the daughter's boyfriend in Roseann! Totally random.

@megs12914 yea! Bob Odenkirk actually is in one episode. I can't imagine a different Michael Scott though! (I'm obsessed with The Office)

  • I feel like people are always telling me the things I'm saying are random but I can't call these facts to the front of my brains on command! Hmmm. I will try.

Did you know you can change the color of a pink hydrangea to a blue one by adding aluminum to the soil? It's much harder to remove aluminum from soil and do it the other way around.

Also, while we're on the topic of movies, Hugh Grant really didn't want to do the scene in Love Actually where he dances to "Jump" by the Pointer Sisters. I think he was flawless.

My music nerd-dom is coming through, but Willie Nelson wrote Patsy Cline's hit "Crazy".  The little known part is that it was originally "Stupid".  And just because I'm awake and bored, here's a picture from when I was hired to play violin for him a few years back (I'm in the green jacket) - awesome guy, he was totally stoned in this pic, and we were way more excited than he was.

  • The scene in Pretty Woman where Richard Gere shuts the jewelry box on Julia's fingers wasn't in the script. They had been shooting the scene for a long time and everyone was really tired and frustrated, so he did that to help the mood. It turned out so good, they kept it in the movie. :)

In Star Wars, (I don't remember which Episode), when Han Solo is being taken away and Leia says she loves him, he replies "I know." In the script, he was supposed to respond "I love you too" but Harrison Ford (in his infinite wisdom) thought that wasn't how Solo would respond, so he changed it to "I know", which is now a pretty iconic moment!

I have more, just give me a few minutes to think about it...
  • Did you know a newborn baby sees the world upside for a few days until it's brain is trained to turn things right side up?
  • Oh I thought of another one - The red leaves of a poinsettia turn green over time- you can get them to go back to red by putting the plant in a very dark room (or putting a black garbage bag over the plant).

  • I actually had to think hard about this.

    - Technically, bug repellent doesn't "repel." By spraying it on you, it blocks the sensors that they would use to locate you. They don't recognize you're there.

    - Valentine's Day originally started as a festival to acknowledge the anniversary of St. Valentine's death. It wasn't associated with love until the Middle Ages because it was believed that February 14 was the beginning of birds' mating season, which signified their love.

  • I love this stuff! And I love useless information!!

    A duck's quack doesn't echo.

The font on your computer Baskerville, is named for John Baskerville, whose mistress is the namesake for another font, Mrs. Eaves.

Towards isn't a real word. It should always be TOWARD.

Bruiser Woods in Legally Blonde is the same chihuahua from the Taco Bell commercial.

  • Dirty Dancing is set in the Catskill Mountains, about 70 miles north of NYC. However, the film was actually filmed in North Carolina.
