3rd Trimester

Are you working till the very end?

So at our holiday happy hour last week my boss asked me how long I had planned to work.  I kind of assumed I'd work till I had the baby, unless the doctor told me otherwise.  Aside from the long walk from the lot to my office, I really sit at a desk all day long.  I was actually thinking of looking into a medical pass so I can park closer, especially as it gets closer.

Should I plan differently?

  • if i am still pregnant, i might work next week from home  p/t (I will be in my 40th week).
  • Loading the player...
  • I was just thinking about that too... I've got a project scheduled to close on 2/22, so I assumed I would be working until at least then!  edd 2/24... ;)

  • I will as long as I am able.  With #1 I worked all the way, #2 I was out 6 weeks before due to preterm labor. I'm really hoping I can keep going.

  • I'm planning to work till the end, but I'm hoping to not take lunches and leave an hour early every day.  We'll see if they ok that.

  • Yes and No! My last day of work will be this Tuesday (YAY!). We are closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas and then I am taking PTO up until my due date because I had to use it before the end of the year, otherwise I would lose it. They are not letting me go past my due date this go around and I am SOOO thankful for that!
  • my last day was Friday and I'll continue to check in from home until the baby arrives. Overall working til the end has been good for me- it's kept me busy and somewhat sane. Now that I'll be home, I don't know what I'll do with myself...(fingers crossed she'll be here very, very soon)
  • I'm due on Saturday (the 27th) and my last day is this Wednesday (the 24th)

I have to say though, I'm ridiculously over work, and I wish I didn't have to go back tomorrow!

  • I will work up until the day before I had him.  (scheduled induction)

I did the same with my older son and it worked out fine.  I am scheduled to have this baby on the 28th of January and I have court settings up until the 26th.  I will probably spend the 27th getting my paperwork and stuff organized in my office.

  • I will be working till my lil boy shows up. I work from home most of the time besides going on sales calls.
  • My last day was Wednesday and it feels so good to be done. Like one of the pp, I'm going to SAH after the baby is born, so I didn't feel the need to save up my time off for after the baby. To be honest, I haven't been bored at all! I've done freezer meals, Christmas shopping/wrapping, plus I plan on doing a lot of cleaning/organizing this coming week. I don't know what I would've done if I had been working- I was too tired at the end of each day to do anything!

  • I always thought I would ... but honestly I got SO uncomfortable since 36w ... I was DONE.   So, I worked until this past Friday, and I'm due on Monday ... so basically I said if she's not here by her EDD, I'm done.   I'm VERY glad, because even working from home is a total PITA right now.   And I know that my OB won't let me go more than a week and a half over, so I won't be wasting too much of my leave before the baby comes.

  • I am working up until I go into labor, the only reason I would go on leave early is if I am not able to work because of medical reasons.?
  • I'm hoping to work til the end. Want to save my time off as much as possible. I have a fairly physical job though (physical therapist) so we'll see if I'm allowed or able to work til the very end.
  • I plan on working until the very end. I have lots to do at work to keep my busy. I worked up until my due date with my son, but he came two weeks late. Those last 2 weeks were the longest weeks of my life. I'd rather be getting paid at work than be sitting at home just waiting.
  • See how you feel, things can change. If you have a flexible boss you can work out a lot of options.

I'm just waiting to see how I feel. Financially it's going to be hard to take 6 months  after, I don't want to take time early because it will affect my pay on the other end. My work is allowing me to be flexible, work from home, go part time on the hard days. etc.

  • I hope to work until the the 20th of March (DD is the 28th), but we'll see how things go.

  • Yes, I am working until the baby comes.  I thought I would only get 2 weeks off after delivering, because I just started my job less than 3 months ago.  However, my doctor informed me that regardless of where you work or for how long you have been with that employer, it is state law to not return to work before 6 weeks - yay!  It's unpaid, but we'll manage.  Smile
  • I'm working until the end unless there are medical reasons.  I've thought about 2/13 being my last day but we'll see. I'm due 2/15
  • Just like with DS, I'll be working until the end.  However, my job is flexible in that I can leave early if I need/want to.  My coworkers are also just great when it comes to stuff like that.
promised myself I'd retire when I turned gold, and yet here I am
  • I am, but it sucks. I'm on my feet all day and these last 2-3 weeks have been brutal. I'm thinking of trying to get my doc to get me out of the last week at least! This week I only work 1 1/2 days so it's not so bad- hopefuly baby will come soon!

  • My last day will be 11 days before my EDD.

  • My plan is to, but it is taking its tole on me.  I work 9 hour days, on my feet all day, and I only get maybe 15 minutes for lunch (I work in a veterinary clinic).  Starting in January I am going to leave an hour early and hope that helps.  On the weekends I sleep like 10 hours because I am so exhausted.  The other person that does the same thing I do is part time and is unwilling to pick anymore hours until I deliver because she will have to work full time when I am on maternity leave.  It totally sucks and I hope I can make it.
  • Yes and no.  My last day of work for this year is tomorrow then my office is closed until 1/5, my EDD.  If she hasn't come by then, I will see how I am feeling and probably work from home-- my office is pretty cool that way...
  • I am planning my last day to be 2 days after my due date, if the baby doesn't come sooner, or unless the doctor advises otherwise.   My due date is a Wednesday, so I want to finish out the week.

I'm doing the same thing. I'm just too cranky and uncomfortable, and tired of hearing 'are you still here' from my coworkers. We get most of the week off anyway with the holidays. The real conundrum will be what I do if he's really late and I don't want to waste vacation or go back to work at 41 weeks +.

  • I don't plan on getting a pass to park closer or anything but yes, I plan on working till the bitter end.

  • I hope to, but I work on my feet all day, so Dr. doesn't think I'll be able to.
  • I plan on working as long as possible also.  But I too have a somewhat physical job (I'm also a physical therapist) so we'll see how long I can stay on my feet all day.

My boss is going to let me cut back my hours as much as I need as I get closer because I currently work ten hour days MWF and that just might not be possible into weeks 36-39.

Hoping to save my maternity leave for after the baby is born since I'll be going back to work part-time.

  • I'm working until the baby comes health willing.
  • I worked until my water broke, since I don't get any FMLA or paid time off or anything.

I'll take 4 weeks once baby comes and then it's back to work for me!

  • I'm a teacher - and our spring break is scheduled the week before my edd.  I'm not planning on going back after spring break - regardless.  I hope to go sometime during our break - but we'll see.  I have a feeling I will go early anyway...all of my dreams about this pregancy have been accurate so far...and an early delivery was a recent dream :)  Corny I know - but I believe in that sort of thing!
  • I was planning to but got written out at 29 weeks for medical reasons.
  • My due date is Wednesday 3/25 and as of now, my last day is scheduled to be Friday 3/20.  I'll work until then as long as the doctor says it is okay.

  • I'm working till the very end, i'd rather stay busy and be making money, then stay at home anxiously waiting.
  • I would, but I am lucky and am off now! Yay!
  • I worked until 40 weeks and 1 day.  I was on my feet alot during the day and it wasn't too bad.  I think moving around and staying busy was definately good for me! I wouldn't worry about the walk from your car to work...it will make you feel better (if its like my case).  Plus, now that I'm home and waiting for the baby, I'm pretty bored and do feel alot more immobile because I seem to just sit around alot!
