FF Babies..Enfamil Gentleease vs. Similac Sensitive

Needing some insight from any moms who have tried these two. Originally my LO was on Enfamil Newborn but seemed to give her gas and a rash so she was switched to the Enfamil Gentleease. She did ok with that one for about a week and although she is passing gas at times she still seems to be straining and the rash hasn't really gone away. She spits up a little as well but not too much for concern. The smell of the Gentleease is another issue but she's been recently not sleeping well and waking herself up straining and balling up at times so I'm wondering if the Gentlease is now a problem. I don't want to switch her a bunch of times but I'm just wondering if the Similac Sensitive maybe better for her. I'm waiting for her Dr. To call me back but I know he will probably tell me it's too soon to switch her again. What is your experience with these two formulas and did either work for you. I'm concerned about the corn syrup but I assume they don't make formulas that would be bad for LO. She will be 6 weeks tomorrow. *Sorry can't do paragraphs on IPad.

Re: FF Babies..Enfamil Gentleease vs. Similac Sensitive

  • We used the enfamil newborn originally as well but we used the ready to feed only because that was all he would eat and it gave him terrible gas. We tried the gentlease and he absolutely hated that as well. So then we were between Gerber gentle or the similac and I saw the corn syrup as well so I went with Gerber gentle and he has been doing good on that.
I did ask the Peditrician about the similac with the corn syrup and she told me all formulas have it in one form or another that's how they get their calories.

  • DD was on Similac advanced and had terrible gas issues so pedi put her on Gentlease and she did better but after a month she was having lots of gas issues so we switched to Similac sensitive and she is doing great. She doesn't strain as much with poops. Almost no gas pains. And she is generally much happier. We have done regular Similac Sensitive and the Target version both with good success so far.

  • We started out on enfamil newborn and it really seemed to upset her stomach. We switched to gentlease and she did pretty well with it. We ended up switching to gerber soothe because we have a friend who works for nestle so we can get a case 1/2 off. She does great on it.
  • I have always liked Similac better than Enfamil with DD, and same goes again with DS.  we started on Similac but he was really gassy etc (wound up being reflux issues) so I tried Enfamil gentlease, but after a day he was super gassy and spitting up everywhere.  the Similiac sensitive has been working wonders.  we have to add rice cereal to his bottles b/c of the reflux but no more gas and a much happier baby.
  • We went through 5 or 6 different formulas before finding our winner. DS was constantly having the same gas pain and some formulas made him spit up way too much.  We tried Similac Total comfort and that was the WORST.  His farts and diapers were toxic...

We switched to parent's choice sensitive (which compares to similac sensitive).  This was the perfect one for him.  Even though it's supposed to be like similac it was way better for his tummy.  The screaming stop as did the toxic fumes.  If you try it make sure you mix it with hot water.  I premix a pitcher and keep it in the fridge.

    good luck!
  • Funny you asked bc I was at my pedi yesterday bc DS who is 6w has been fussing/cranky for 6-8 hrs at a time trying to poo every day for the last 2 weeks. It's not colic, but there's obviously smtg up. Pedi said that it's pretty much a rite of passage and that it will pass. However, he also said that I am welcome to try any milk-based formula I'd like bc it's basically a crap shoot. What works on one baby may not on an other. So since I was already using similac, last night we tried the sensitive version and for the first time in two weeks, he pooed without me having to hold his legs back!! And, he pooed twice today!!! So, we're going to stick with this for now and see how it goes. He still fussed and was gassy today, but he was DEFINITELY more comfy overall and passed his gas better.
