Traveling for the Holidays

Are you going somewhere? Or is family coming to you? Also- do you think it will be a yearly thing. 

DH and I are going to our hometown (a 6 hours drive away) so both our families plus extended families are there. We travel there for every holiday and I can never see that changing, it's not feasible for people to come to us.  Part of me is sad- I know DD will never get to come down our stairs Christmas morning and see the presents under our tree.  But at the same time, it means a lot that we are able to share these memories with our families and I don't want to give that up.  I want DD to be with her cousins and grandparents and everyone.  So, we travel.

    Because of work we get one holiday to travel either Christmas or Thanksgiving.  We do Christmas with my family and Thanksgiving with Dh's.  We travel every other year and then stay at home the other year. This year my family is coming to spend Christmas with us and I don't see this changing in the near future.

    I usually go to Hawaii for xmas but I refuse to go anywhere with this wild toddler right now.

    We don't travel, my parents live less than 2 miles from us so we usually go over there in the morning and then my Husbands dad lives 15 minutes from us so we see him in the afternoon on all holidays.  It is nice to be close, but if we lived far away, we would travel to our family.

    Everybody comes to us because h doesn't get holidays off. I miss going to my grandparents for the holidays. Until h gets a different type of job everyone will probably have to come to us.

    We go to DH's sisters house for Christmas Eve (maybe 40 minutes away).  And for Christmas we go to my parents (15-20 minutes).

    We have a small house and I hate to entertain, so I'm happy to go to SIL's and my parents

    We're going up to PA to see my parents again. Yay, another 13 hour car ride... Probably not a yearly thing but we went last year also. We're supposed to switch Christmases between H's and my family but he no longer has a relationship with his mother so that changes things. We've invited his sister and her family to come to us but they always have an excuse.

    I must be a homebody because I want to be in our own house. On christmas. We flew on Xmas day two years ago, it was deserted. I would do that again for sure.

    We have my moms side of the family at our house Christmas Eve. Christmas morning we go to my sisters, and then spend the afternoon and evening at my ILs about an hour away.

    MIL usually comes to us so we end up hosting Xmas (my side of the family and friends comes).  I don't mind this being a tradition because MIL helps with cooking, my mother helps with clean up, and everyone else can watch the kid!
