Mouth Ulcers

Someone pleeeeeease help.  I have this stupid virus that's going around down here and lingering.  I've been coughing for 4 weeks.  The newest fun symptom is a mouth FULL of ulcers.  I'm talking I counted 12 on the back of my throat and that doesn't include the inside of my lips.  The doctor said she's seen it at least 20 times in the last two weeks and prescribed magic mouthwash that contains lidocaine.  It does great at numbing my tongue (grrr) and one side of my throat, but nothing for the left side.  I've been gargling warm salt water every other hour.  It still hurts to swallow and of course, eat.  I've even tried chloraseptic before eating, but it lasts like .2 seconds.

Is there another cure or pain relief option that I don't know about?

Ugh that sounds terrible! I used to have very bad canker sores all the time and it's really hard to make them feel better. Stay away from acidic and salty food to help them heal. I also liked to chew up a tums and sort of rub it around where it hurt to neutralize acid in my mouth.

    Hope you feel better soon!
I actually just saw Tums is great for them on Pinterest.  Thanks!  That's my next purchase.

  • Oh wow, stoked. I'm sorry you are still so sick. I have no suggestions at all, but wanted to say I hope you feel better really soon. Hopefully someone else has suggestions. Can they give you pain meds or something so you aren't in so much pain? Hugs!!
Thanks!  I wish they could.  Supposedly, the lidocaine mixture should work.  It's lidocaine, Maalox and Benadryl, so you would think it would. :(

  • I use this on canker sores. It puts a coating over them & helps numb them. I think you find it by the oral hygiene stuff.

I've seen that, but can you put it inside your mouth??

Yup! I had a canker sore in my mouth and specifically asked the pharmacist what I should use & that's what she recommended - she said she uses it herself.

  • Find the capsules of the amino acid Lysine...it's good for skin repair.  I also (apparently am a sucker for punishment) coat my sores with baking soda and let it sit on there to clean them out, then do a salt water rinse right after.  It stings, but it gets them clean and the salt will pucker up the skin.  You can also mix the baking soda with water and swish with that...but don't swallow too much of it

Feel better! What you're going through really sucks!
