It's Thursday... UO!

You must have something to say ladies... (Sorry no funny creative gif, my work computer is gif posting challenged, but it's already late in the day so I thought we should get started!)

I don't like Gmail. There! I said it! My husband acts like this is treason. I don't like the Convo style, I don't like how it sorts my emails into categories (Primary, Social, Promo...) I love Google Docs

I don't like how Yahoo keeps crashing recently either, but I've had it so long I am loathe to switch. I def have an email problem though, I think I check 4 accounts daily or most days.

  • I hate the elf on the shelf too, he's freaking creepy.

I'm not into decorating. Our tree is up but I haven't done the ornaments yet, or anything else. Oh, and DH told me to put the Halloween stuff away, it's time, ha! I forgot I still have a couple jackolanterns on a bookshelf and little pumpkins on our dining room table. Whoops.

  • I hate Apple products. Not only do I hate the way they operate but I majored in video production in college and had to deal with "Mac snobs" all the time. They acted like Apple was God's greatest gift to mankind and it was irritating.
    This! Exactly

I can't stand the parents who "don't do gifts" for their kids at christmas(or their holiday that they celebrate).  I know it's not JUST about gifts… but shit, talk about unfair!

I'll also add… the parents who say "in leu of bringing a gift for suzie's 5th birthday, she would like you to donate to _______ instead".  Make check payable to ________ foundation.

Yeah, yeah… sure… your 5 year old child decided she'd rather donate to a charity than get a barbie.  Really believable. (I ALWAYS bring a gift).

I really don't like the new trend with the nail polish all the same on one hand except one or two fingers...(does that have a name?). I just don't get it. Same goes for the new ombre hair style. Clearly this must be unpopular because these are huge trends these days. I feel like an old lady saying "I just don't get what kids are doing these day."

You mean like, red nails on both hands and the ring fingers have glitter? It's called an accent nail.

That is sorta what I mean... except all the girls at work and around my town will do like all red nails, except two nails on each hand will be gray, or something like that. And @potterowl I didn't know that about the glbtq community. I feel like that is something totally different and I actually like that idea. But the people I see doing it certainly aren't doing that... they say it is just a new style.

  • Well, I mean, if their regilion/faith/whatever does not look allow (for a lack of a better word) gifts during holidays, I don't see that as being wrong just because I dig presents under my tree.
Not at all what I'm referring to.  I'm talking about people who celebrate christmas… and "don't do gifts".  Or celebrate Hanukkah and "don't do gifts".  It's messed up… because it's a holiday about giving… GIFTS!

Or the parents that want you to help pay for the birthday party instead of a gift for the kid.

Exactly! Sorta along the same lines - this is something that has REALLY been bugging me. DH has a cousin who has had lots of infertility issues and is now having a baby by a surrogate - her own sister. I think this is wonderful and amazing and we are so happy for her and her DH. She had a baby shower last weekend and we sent a gift (unfortunately we couldn't go, she lives far away). A few days before the shower another of DH's cousin sends out a mass text to all of the cousin saying hey, let's all pitch in $100 to buy a diamond necklace for surrogate cousin to give at the shower. DH replies that he thought a baby shower was for baby gifts and that maybe the focus should be on mom cousin and the baby, especially since she has waited so long for this baby. Also, we don't have a lot of extra income right now and $100 is a lot of money, not to mention if I spend $100 on the surrogate then I feel like my baby shower gift should be more than that for the actual mom! Then another cousin replies that the mom cousin is on board with the gift and really wants the cousins to give this gift to her surrogate. So now I feel like mom cousin has basically asked everyone to buy a thank you gift for her surrogate. To me that seems like something private and something that should be between mom cousin and surrogate cousin. I was so irritated by the whole thing and we didn't pitch in so now everyone thinks we are cheap jerks. Sorry tl;dr...

  • I too hate anything Chevron, I'm sure that trend will end soon right?! And I think the Elf on the Shelf is creepy.  I guess my personal UO today is some of the cheesey ways people announce their pregnancy - esp. the "Our family is growing by two feet" (with an accompanying pic of the family shoes).  I guess I just feel that one has been done to death and it's no longer "clever".  I guess I'm too straight forward, what's wrong with just saying "we're expecting" or "we're having a baby".  Why does everyone feel they need to make it "sooo cutesy"?

  • I love apple products. I'm not an apple snob by no means, I do have a sony, dell and MacBook but I prefer the Mac.

The main reason I like apple is because of the customer service - if I have an issue I can go and talk to a real person face to face to troubleshoot the problem. They replaced several phones because of a damaged screen, which was my fault, in turn made the phone not function properly.

On the flip side. I had an issue with my sony computer and I had to call and sit on the phone for a loooong time to finally talk to someone who couldn't even understand what I was saying. I sent the computer off to be fixed and was without it for more than two weeks. The issue was "loose screws" through out the entire laptop. The darn thing was brand new. So I don't know, I'm not a snob but I do like having the option to go see someone face to face.

I call it "pinterest" syndrome. Because of pinterest everything these days has be to cutesy and arty... wedding, birthday parties, showers, pregnancy announcements, bump pictures.... everything! It's the cause of a lot of stress and pressure on women these days.

I have a gray nursery for DS, its green as well.

My UO, I don't like a lot of the new movie remakes.  Like The Amazing Spiderman or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  The originals/ older ones were better.

  • I think white elephant gifts that you buy are rediculous. Who wants to spend $10-20 on an item no one wants. If you're doing a funny/embarrassing white elephant gift exchange it should have to be something you own/made.

I love pickled herring. LOVE IT. My brother and I used to eat it with our grandpa and it really is one of my most favorite foods.

During my last pregnancy, I loved eating it with peanut butter on a cracker. The first time I did it, my brother ran into the bathroom and wretched.

    IT IS SO GOOD.

OMG I LOVE PICKLED HERRING CAN WE BE BEST FRIENDS.

I bring a jar to Christmas every year because my family is Swedish, but they are all grossed out by it. My grandma and I were the only ones that like it, I bring it in her honor.

Then I scarf it all down.
