Yes, we have an aluminum foil star on top. DH made it for our first Christmas together in our first apartment when we were too broke to buy a topper. I can't bring myself to replace it with a store bought star...ours is perfect for us!
MH got this tree before we got married and it's about to have to go. I like fat trees. I couldn't convince him to get a real one this year. Meany. It's kind of hard to see, but it's blue and silver with a few not-so-matchy sentimental ornaments (including the one from @wheelerc) at the top. I bought all new ornaments this year to do this color scheme and ensure I had balls that wouldn't break. Bryson has been great- I taught him how to hang the ornaments so he could help me. Now he just walks up to the ones he hung and says "Meeee."
Here's ours - both my husband's family and mine had a tradition of giving the kids a new ornament every year so we'd have ornaments when we started our own family. So those are the only ones we put on this year, left off the glass bulbs! It's fun because we have mine, MH's, and Anna's first Christmas ornaments all next to each other at the top And the very best part of this tree... the smell 8->
This is one sorry-looking tree. We cut it down at a tree farm, and it looked great ... However, between the toddler and the dog, it's in rough shape. DS pulls off anything he can reach so the ornaments are all high, and then we let him decorate the bottom so his toys are strewn all through the bottom branches. Then yesterday, the dog knocked the tree down after I told DH we need to tie it up. Nope! Tree knocked over while the nanny was here. The lights are now a jumbled mess and the tree leans. Hoping the anchor it and straighten it up tonight!
The bottom third is bare because Avery won't leave the ornaments alone, but I don't mind. The angel is vintage. I searched high and low to find one like my parents had when I was growing up!
