S/O Childcare

I'm speaking to our HR guy tomorrow afternoon to discuss moving from part-time from home to full-time from home.  My questions are for people who have someone come to their home to watch LO.  How much do you pay per hour and for how many kids?  I'll have three LO's and would like to find someone who can sit from 8am-1pm on weekdays.  I want to make sure I'm asking for enough of a raise to cover the childcare cost.

I know this will depend will vary based on location but I'm just looking for a general idea.  TIA!

  • We found a couple great sitters on care.com recently. Our main one (she is older) is $12 an hour but she also cleans while she is here which is wonderful! She loves Ava and teaches her a ton of things, keeps her very busy, and is great with our animals. Our other sitter is great too but very different. She has an 8 month old and sometimes she brings him with her which works out great as Ava loves playing with him. Basically she just hangs out with Ava and plays with her. No cleaning or anything or the extensive teaching of various things but that's ok. She is $9/hr but it's under the table. The other sitter is an independent contractor so we are able to claim our childcare costs with her against our taxes.
  • I think the range is $10-$20 per hour (for when I was looking when LO was 6 weeks old). I ended up paying $13 an hour with the lady I ended up using but I remember some nannies listing up to $20 on care.com. I would think you may be on the higher end with 3 kids so estimating $20 an hour would probably be a safe bet.
  • Thanks for the input. I was looking online and seeing a lot of sitters for $20-25 per hour. That seems so pricey! If that's what I end up paying, I won't be able to afford to work from home. :(
