All of our doctors have told us that we have to wake the baby up to eat every 2-3 hours...basically for the first year according to the pediatrician. I can understand in the early weeks but how do I live off of 2 hours of sleep at a time for a whole year? I notice some people saying they get rest in 4 or 6 hour chunks? Are there varying opinions on what to do about this?
Re: Do you wake baby to feed?
FWIW, my LO is having weight gain issues (he's gaining, just slower than the pedi would like) and is sleeping 6-7 hrs straight at night. Unless his weight gain becomes more of a concern, my pedi says to enjoy getting real sleep and "don't you dare think of waking LO up unless your boobs need you to!"
DD2 went 5 hours last night and I was so excited you'd have thought it was Christmas.

It's a GIRL! Lydia Marie!
So I would definitely get a second opinion on the waking thing. It might only buy you 30 minutes, but hey that's 30 minutes!
I will occassionally rouse him from a nap during the day to eat if it's been getting close to 4 hours, but that's because if he doesn't eat enough during the day he'll be up more at night, and we all need our sleep at night! We haven't woken him at night for over a month.
