Recently I read a post and it seemed like nap time is the hardest for most LOs so my question is how do you get your LO to nap. Rock, car rides, they fall asleep on their own ect. I thought it would be interesting to see others ways.
Swing after nursing 2-3 times a day for up to 2 hours for us. I want to start napping him in his crib after the first of the year so he gets used to it. He sleeps in our room in a pnp at night,
I usually rock a bit then lay her in rnp. Yesterday I had 2 successes putting her down awake!! She usually takes cat naps through the day then an hourish nap in the evening.
When he starts showing drowsy signs I swaddle him, lay him in his crib and turn his mobile on. He looks at it for a little bit and then falls asleep. Sometimes he fusses for a bit but eventually he dozes off.
I pretty much have to hold her if I want her to nap for any reasonable length of time. She sometimes naps well in the stroller though, and does ok in the Ergo. Sometimes we can get her to fall asleep in her little bouncer chair if we rock it, but she usually doesn't sleep for as long.
I usually swaddle her while reciting a book, then hold her while singing a song and lay her down. She usually fusses a bit but eventually goes to sleep. If she gets really worked up, I go in and hold her while patting her bottom and set back down once she is calm (sometimes asleep). If she is really overtired and needs a good long nap, or if it's DD1's nap time, I swaddle her and wear her in the ergo.
We swaddle with a blanket (as opposed to the velcro swaddles we use at night), rock to sleep or drowsy and then she goes into the swing or RNP. We will work on getting her back into the crib over the Christmas break.
ETA: DD hates the car something fierce, so car rides would never work for her. DS, however, took many a nap in the car. He fought sleep, while DD doesn't seem to yet.
When he starts to look drowsy, I change his diaper, swaddle him, rock him until he does his little 'relaxation sigh', then put him in the RnP. I've been tracking his sleep for 7 days and he gets about 5 hours of naps a day. His shortest naps are usually 45 minutes. He's 11 weeks tomorrow.
If she isn't too tired then cuddling or rocking her will do the trick. But she tends to fight sleep during the day and will get overly tired and very worked up and then it's a total workout to get her down. I snuggle her in my arms with her favorite blanket and toss a light blanket over both our heads so she isn't being over stimulated, then I try to get her to take her binky while I shush and sooth her. Generally she is hitting and clawing me at the start while grunting, screaming, arching her back, and angry-chomping her binky. But after a minute or two she will start to settle and take the binky and then I rub her head and sing to her. At this point she has lost the battle but she still tries very hard to keep her eyes open and will lay there for 10 minutes or so hanging onto me tightly with her eyes opening and closing. I usually have to wait until she is in a deep sleep before I can put her down or she will be wide awake and screaming all over again. If she isn't upset then she goes down fine but once she gets worked up she is very stubborn and it's a lot of work to calm her back down.
