High-Risk Pregnancy

First time posting here! ?? About ladies w past leeps.

I'm a feb 14 mama "due" the 8th. A lil background I have 4 children 3 DS and 1DD all born at 35 weeks, all 6lbs+ no nicu stays and no explanation other then my anatomy causes me to deliver early. So I have been having my "normal" preterm labor stuff w this pregnancy. Only difference is I have had a LEEP last November and they have been monitoring my cervix which is now 100% effaced but only fingertip to 1 dialated. I was admitted for a scare at 27-28
Weeks and that is where I got all kinds of conflicting info. I had a polyp which causes bleeding but upon manual and visual exam I was told by 2 OBs that the scar tissue was the only thing keepin me from dialating and then from 2 other OBs (one who is my regular) that the scar tissue has nothing to do w anything and that I can/will dialate on my own... I should also mention my first 2 sons were vaginal and my 3rd son was breech so c-section and when in labor w my DD I was getting knife like pains with contractions so they took her Csection. I guess what I'm trying to ask is has anyone had any issues with scarring from past leeps? Did it stop u from dialating? Could the scar tissue possibly help me get past 35 weeks w this baby? I know that each case is individual and obviously if I'm in labor or water breaks regardless of my cervix ill take it from there....

  • Yes I had to leep done .. I was also on p17 shots because I has my 6 year old at 28 weeks .. I went into labor twice before ibhad my now 3 month old ... the second time was at 32 weeks and the second was at 34 weeks where they thought for sure my water was going to break but didnt because of the scare tissue .. I went into hard labor at 36 weeks and was dilated all the way every where but the right side of my cervix .. because of the scar tissue it prevented that side from goinf the reast of the ay I was at 8 or 9 cm on that side and my doc had to hold me open so it didnt tare while pushing ..

I'm a L&D nurse and have seen lots of patients with previous LEEPs. The scar tissue can really slow down dial action for a while, but usually what happens is the woman will be in active labour (having regular painful contractions) with no cervical change. They keep contracting and seem to hang out around 3 cm for hours until the scar tissue suddenly gives, and then they proceed really fast (like 3 - 8 cm in minutes). If you are planning another c-section they would probably do that if you start having significant contractions regardless of dilation.

I really appreciate your feedback, that make sense as I have read a few stories of women "stuck" then feel a little pop(the scar tissue giving way) and dilating. I'm really up in the air I guess as to vba2c or c-section. I have experienced both and vag are just such a smoother recovery and having 4 kids at home plus a newborn Id like to be as available to them as possible. With my c sections I have so many allergys I am very limited on the meds I can take after delivery (ibuprofen being an allergy of mine stinks) so not to tangent to much more, I guess this is one I will have to see what happens :)
