Interesting (and frustrating) article

I read this today...

Personally, I finished it feeling really frustrated... But I'm not really interested in sharing my personal opinions just yet. I'm curious to see what you all think...

  • I started reading it and then I could only skim it....I agree with the "No's"
  • Ahh! No! So sad! No way! The guilt, the incorrectness, the misinformation... no no no...
  • Oh ... my god.

I can't believe this is real.

I can't even put my thoughts into words. This is so ridiculous on SO many levels.

  • I really really hope that it left you frustrated because you can't believe how somebody can actually be that stupid.

This. I read this article a few days ago abd felt nothing but frustration that people are really that dumb. And that other mothers are dumb enough to believe it.

  • Oh, ladies... PLEASE make no mistake, I call BS on this article. If this lady actually believes that her son has autism because she did things that almost every other pregnant woman does, then I actually feel a little bad for her. But mostly I felt pissed that she deemed herself a medical expert and autism specialist and set out with the goal to make every other pregnant woman feel like every move she makes is going to be detrimental to her child.

However, sadly there are people who do believe it... I didn't track this down. A girl I went to school with posted it... Totally believing it...
  • Also, the girl who shared this article originally is not a mother... And I really hope that when she is pregnant some day she doesn't feel like she has to live in a bubble like this lady...
  • "-Mountain Mama " says it all. GTFO MM is what I say.

Oh I'm done with this trend of don't do this it causes this. Until a fing real doctor comes out and says there is a 100% link...it is FINE. It boils my blood!!!!!!!!!

  • Well, according to her, my kid is screwed. Thank (my Catholic) god for giving me the common sense to trust the hoards of legitimate research out there discrediting all her crappery. Good grief! Reading that made my head hurt from all the stupid.

  • The guilt and psychosis this woman must endure from this is something I can't even begin to imagine.

She seems like one of those that would go to WebMD (or some unqualified mom blog) before she would even consider getting an actual valid diagnosis for a trained medical professional in that field.

    SMH.

  • My 14 year old G/T son is screwed! I did all that and more and had an amnio too... I wonder how that procedure tips the odds for him? But in all seriousness... Wow...
  • I'm so glad that you all had the same reaction as me!  I want to ask her about all this "research"!  I mean, drinking Coke gave your kid autism?  Seriously lady!  Call your f-in lawyer and sue their asses!  See how far it gets!  I mean, my mom drank a 2-liter of Coke, smoked (not just cigarettes, drank, ate a bag of ruffles potato chips, etc. every single night when she was pregnant with me...I don't have autism. Granted, that was in the 70's and autism wasn't invented yet! (j/k) People like this make me so sad.

Slightly related story: My mom smoked pot multiple times per week when she was pregnant with me. To this day, she claims that it cannot cross the placenta and affect a baby. She made herself quit when I was born because she said it would get into her breast milk. She weaned me cold turkey at 4 months because she wanted a joint. I apparently refused formula, so a day later she started nursing again til eight months.

Kudos for making it to the comment section. After "How I Gave My Son Autism" I gave up.

  • Yeah...that's all a bunch of crap. I can't believe some people actually believe this stuff.
  • WTF! All I needed to read was that she has fibromyalgia. Go talk to a psychiatrist and deal with your issues. Also I want to know who is this pediatrician who claims her kid should have never been vaccinated? Seriously?

  • I have a friend who actually believes this nonsense. I have a feeling we won't be friends for long once I tell her that she and her kid aren't welcome around mine till mine is vaccinated...

This stuff seriously enrages me. Idiots. Go move to your own fuckin island please.

  • OMG. So I guess that drinking (as in the act not the description) water has also been implicated in causing autism, cancer, and World War I.

  • Just skimmed the article. It is pretty ridiculous that this woman believes these things are the cause of her child's Autism. On the other hand, do I believe that there are health concerns about many things on her list? Yes. I have my own issues with antibiotics, high fructose corn syrup and vaccines etc. I believe everyone should make informed choices based on all research, not just that is supported by drug companies and your personal medical doctor. Autism though??? It's a pretty far jump to conclude that these things all worked together to *cause* Autism. Not to mention the guilt you are faced with. Just think about what the guilt is doing to her. That can't be too healthy either I suppose.
  • She anticipated three responses, but clearly not the most common of "WTF? Why are you so BSC?!?!"

This is exactly what I said to my husband!
  • Yeah, just read through most of the comments...

Holy mother of god that Heidi woman is as cray cray as "selfie" chick!

I swear those two have been drinking from the same fluoridated cool-aid!
