What do you think about a Keurig for baby formula? My SO aunt texted me and said she found this online, and she bought it for us for Christmas.

My SO and I plan to Breastfeed, and supplement during the night because formula keeps them fuller longer. I guess this would be awesome and simple for night time feedings, but I can't help but to think it might of been a waste of money!

What are your thoughts on this machine ??

I saw this online not long ago. I could never justify spending the money, but like PP said if it's a gift, I'd use it.

It wouldn't be worth my money but hey, if she wants to give it as a gift... why not? We actually use our regular Keurig to heat up bottles... just run an empty cycle (no k-cup) on the smallest setting into a large mug. Put the bottle in the hot water for a few minutes and voila- warm milk. Then again, I'm also a mean mommy and don't really want my babies learning to like it warm. I prefer to give them room temperature milk... or even cold if they will take it later on :-)

Any way you want to feed your kid is cool with me and not looking to start any kind of BF vs FF argument but I believe it's a myth that formula keeps them fuller longer. At least what I've read on other boards here, especially on the 0-3 month board.

I think it looks awesome, and I would probably use it for awhile. After time, it would probably sit unused like every other gadget I get talked into having. I could see DH using it more than me, especially since I am going to try to continue BFing at nights once I return to work.

My first thought with you feeding formula at night is when are you going to start this? The first 2-4 months is really important for establishing milk supply. I'd worry not nursing or pumping for eight hours could make you have mastitis or mess with your supply. It CAN work, but do keep it in mind.

Second is that baby may not want a bottle from you. DS never, ever, ever took a bottle from me. The boobs were right there and he did not understand why I'd offer a bottle when boobs were way more fun.

As far as the product...more shit on my counters I don't need. As a rule I don't like things that only have one purpose. I already have too much shit.

I would be pumping at night, for the first couple of months, still trying to figure out my schedule with being a FTM. I still have a lot of research to do lol

Also it isn't just because it's rumored to digest slower the BM but it'll also be great for the SO to be able to help with nighttime feedings

Formula is not as easy to digest as breastmilk; it takes longer for a baby's stomach to digest and absorb. That's where the myth stems from. (I'm certainly not arguing that the myth is true - all babies eat frequently no matter what they're eating)

I've known of plenty of FF babies that wake multiple times in the night, so I wouldn't bank on that buying you a full night's rest. And if your plan of waking to pump sounds worse to me than waking to nurse. You're up either way - save the hassle and just nurse the baby.

Also, the gadget seems....not quite useless long term, but like something I'd not use forever, even if I FF. And I'm insane and would worry about it not mixing the amount of powder to water correctly or something.

Pumping takes longer than nursing in my experience. If youre going to be up anyway, I'd rather feed the baby.

The way DH and I worked it would be that I would have at least a bottle's worth in the freezer at all times. If DS was up a LOT and nursing a LOT at night, DH would thaw it under warm water and feed him and rock him to sleep. Usually it was an extra feeding and meant I didn't need to pump.

Or DH would get up, bring DS to me to nurse in bed, then bring DS back to the nursery to rock. Often DH fell asleep there, and it was okay because DS slept very well in his arms. Either way I wasn't the only one up.

I wouldn't want to pump if I could just feed baby, though.

I'd think about being flexible here. I get not wanting to be the only one up at night, but pumping while DH feeds baby may not really save you any sleep.

I've never formula fed, so I can't comment on how convienient this machine would be, but I'd pick nursing over pumping every.single.time.
It's faster and I don't even have to get out of bed to do it!

My daughter started on formula at 10 months when I got pregnant and then turned out to be lactose intolerant at 1 year old. She will drink formula until she's old enough to take Lactaid. You could potentially use it for a couple of years...

That said, I probably wouldn't spend the $ on it.

This exactly.

Yeah, the average amount of time to pump a bottle is around 15 - 25 minutes. That doesn't include set up or sterilization of the pump (another 10 - 15 min). I could nurse my daughter in 20 minutes and be back asleep right away.
