Toddlers: 24 Months+

Ok so I'm going to be super annoying and ask...

Any toy recommendations for a 2.5yr old? I know everyone else is asking, but I seriously don't know what to tell "Santa" she wants. I hate wasting money, or when others waste money on toys she will play with for a day and lose interest. Anyone have experience with long lasting toys/activities?

  • Search play at home mom gift guide.  They have guides for ages up until 5.  My girls love the toys I've gotten off of those guides.

  • Thank you so much! Exactly what I was looking for. Got some really great ideas.
  • My DD is 2.5 as well. With this age, I feel they're young enough that you don't have to go whole hog on Christmas.  I'm sure the website PP suggested was great.  I'm going to check it out too.  I'm keeping Christmas as simple as possible for DD this year.  We have a lot of other expenses so, like you, I really don't want to waste a dollar on needless toys.  DH and I are getting her necessities like clothing and more sippies.  Grandparents are getting her a toddler bike and a train set.  These are two things she consistently plays with at friends' houses, so I assume she will play with them a lot at home.  My H is making her a toy kitchen, but it will likely not be done by Christmas.  Our second baby is due in late January.  We're thinking the kitchen will be a "big sister" gift.  Good luck and don't feel pressure to give you LO a "prefect Christmas" :-)

  • I buy one maybe two toys. The rest of her gifts are practical. Socks, underwear, shirts, some new shoes etc. I also try to make them fun to open by separating things out so she has a lot to open. She's only two, opening the presents is like going to an amusement park for her. Also at this age she is just as excited by hello kitty underwear as she is a hello kitty stuffed animal. Don't go over board. They will lose interest fast. Also, if you have family like I do, they go overboard for me so I let them get all the ridiculous toys that she won't care about in a month.
  • Another mom I know was raving about something called kinetic sand. The YouTube video was really cool. This is what my son is getting.
