Flying with LO internationally

Have any of you flown internationally with your LO's yet, or do you plan to at all?

We live in Australia and my hubby came home last night to say that his work might be sending him to America for a week or so in about a month....It's not confirmed or anything yet, just a potential option and he asked if I would go with our LO as well! I have always been a huge traveller and actually got my hubby into traveling internationally as well, although we have never been to America together before.

I'm just not sure how our little girl would go, she is 9 weeks old today....Do you think it's too early to consider international trips yet?

Re: Flying with LO internationally

  • While I haven't flown international with my LO yet, I used to work as a flight attendant and I have seem many young babies onboard long flights. They are definitely easier now than once they are more active. Most larger aircrafts have bassinets in the bulkhead rows that you can place the baby in to sleep if you request ahead of time.

We've done a few domestic flights with LO, and the airport is the worst part. During the flight she gets to cuddle, eat and sleep... What more could a baby want?

    Hes our angel... :)

  • We are going to Mexico in January with both kids and I'm more worried about my nearly 3 year old than my 4 month old. Ours will be about a 5 hour flight, though I'm sure yours will be longer coming from Australia. I think it's definitely doable at this age...
  • @sunshine2929 we will be going to the Dominican Republic too! We leave in Feb.
We decided to wait until LO is about 6 months old before traveling internationally. This is because of the area we are going to though not because of worries with being in the plane. The area where we visit is remote to say the least and without a lot of resources, that's why we are waiting so long before we return. I would definitely make a trip to the States with a 9 week old.
  • When duck 2 was ummmm 4 months we flew to S. Korea. I did it alone with him and duck 1 who was 3. Ld2 slept from take off to touch down and that was the last time he slept that long lol.

Much easier when they are young

  • H is on a two week business trip in India right now.  About two months ago, he invited LO & I to accompany him, but I said no because I wasn't sure how it would be traveling with her.  And now that I know myself a mom better, and I know how LO is as a 12 week old baby, I regret not taking him up on his offer.

We're going to Colombia in June for about a week, and LO will be getting her first (that I know of, at this point) passport stamps then.

If I were you, I would absolutely tag along.
