XP: Our little guy is here!

Hi ladies!

My water broke around 10:30 pm Sat night. It was just a small amount of fluid and we had to do 3 tests to determine that it was in fact amniotic fluid. It was so I was admitted and we started pitocin to get contractions going and regular. This was early Sun morning around 2am. Contractions got regular and were becoming more uncomfortable but I wasn't dilating. I stayed at 1 to 2cm over the course of 13 hours with contractions coming closer together and getting more and more painful. They suspected my body was having an issue dilating due to scar tissue from a LEEP procedure I had years ago. Finally I got the green light to get my epidural because I was in so much pain. Unfortunately that didn't work out so well. I had the epidural administered in 2 different spots. I was numb in my thighs and legs but still felt the contractions. We suspect this was due to the complications I had following a spinal tap some years ago that I had to have a blood patch for because I started leaking spinal fluid. The contractions ultimately became unbearable with no break in pain in between. I was told later that the baby was pressing on a nerve and that's why I wasn't getting any relief. After about 27 hours and extreme agony, throwing up from the pain, trying narcotics and other things to help which were just not enough, Dr decided to do a Caesarean section with general anesthesia. It stunk because I was totally out for it and DH could not be in the room but at that point I wanted to just deliver the baby and put myself out of my misery. The good thing was that my little guy remained good throughout the whole process.

Surgery went well. I found out after that he was posterior and the cord was wrapped around his neck so the Dr may have had to do the c-section anyway even if I had dilated and tried to deliver vaginally. So, it was for the best.

I am enjoying every minute with my consolation prize. DH and I are beyond in love with him. Justin Thomas was born on 12/9/13 at 1:12 a.m. 6 lbs, 11 oz, 20 in. He is doing well so far with nursing. It's nice to have a few extra days in the hospital with the nurses and lactation consultants. Anyway I'll attempt to attach a pic. Thanks for all the well wishes and support!!
