Secondary IF

Introduction

Well howdy ladies.  I be Amerbutt. I call my husband JEGs and I hail from the great city of Philadelphia.

Quick notes about me:  diagnosed with Prolactinoma when I was 16 and my levels were 1538.  In May 2011 I went to my primary care doctor because I thought I had a bladder infection and surprise!  I was actually 20 weeks pregnant.  My little monster, Hunter, was born on October 1, 2011.  After I was done nursing, I went back to my endocrinologist, started aggressively taking cabergoline again, and as of November 2013 my levels were the lowest they've ever been at 47.5.  BOOM.  How you like me now tumor?

Problem:  haven't had my period in three years.  When I got knocked up in December 2010, my levels were around 150ish.  Since they are now a third of what they were when I conceived before, you can understand that I am slightly frustrated.

Here is my questions: I have an appointment to see an reproductive endocrinologist on December 23rd.  What can I expect?  I see so many posts about triggers, and 2ww, and clomid, and being benched... what does all of this mean?   I am looking for support because I feel I don't really have anyone to talk to.  I am also incredibly frustrated because I've had 16 people in my life announce their pregnancy in the past 5 months-- I've actually had to step away from Facebook because I just couldn't handle it anymore.

Also.. what the eff is a potato?  ;)

Re: Introduction

  • Haha about potato. I just half-explained it in a nearby post. Easy to find.

Welcome! I have an anterior pituitary micro adenoma, but it's asymptomatic and my hormone levels are always fine so I've never been treated.

The RE will likely take a lengthy history, maybe do some blood work, and talk about your options. The stuff that matters to you now is probably 2WW (two week wait from ovulation to pregnancy testing time). Clomid and triggers might become relevant if you move forward with fertility treatments.

I'm sorry you have to be here, but I will say that these ladies have given me a bright side to not being pregnant month after month- at least I still get to play here!

  • HELLO

The RE will do a bunch of testing, then most likely give you a script for Clomid since you are probably not ovulating. Clomid is the stuff that'll make you ovulate. There are more aggressive drugs, but this is a typical starting point.

We like to throw potatoes at people, places, things, etc. We're a wild bunch.

    Welcome.

  • Thank you all for the warm welcome!  I already feel so much more comfortable because when I tell people about my Prolactinoma, they kind of cock their head to the side and I can see the big ole question mark above their head.

My endo had briefly discussed getting me on a drug that would force my cycle, but she didn't give it a name-- perhaps she was talking about clomid.  I am the odd man who is looking for her period ever month, haha.

  • Welcome! I second what @annibes said.

Your little Hunter is so cute. :)
Thank you!  I think we did pretty good for not even trying. :)  Your Finn is so adorable I want to eat him.

..was that weird?  Sorry, I get a little out of control sometimes

I don't think it's weird. I threaten to eat kids faces especially cheeks.

     Let's do this.
She most likely meant Provera, which is commonly prescribed to induce a period, but you'd still have to tackle this anovulatory issue with the Clomid (or something similar)

And, yea.. We are most def the funnest group on the entire internet and of all time. :)
