Preemies

33w3d - Low Fluid.

Hey there ladies! I usually post of Pregnant after IF because this is an IVF PG, but with me now being high risk and possibly getting c section and having a preemie, I would love to see if anyone has feedback. I'm 33weeks 3days. I got admitted monday morning after MFM discovered that my fluid dropped from friday. I'm on hospital bed rest and not leaving until LO is here.So we've been doing NST's since I've been here, and they look totally good. She's reactive, and all the docs say it looks beautiful. MFM team came in today and did a U/S to monitor fluids, which dropped again. They think I may be leaking when I pee. Fluid right now is btwn 2.5-4.7. My OB came to visit me, said that baby looks good. She has no bladder problems, no breathing problems, but fluid being low can cause these things. He said if the fluid drops at all by tomorrow, LO is coming home tomorrow via c-section because she is breech. If my fluid doesn't drop, we take it day by day until she gets here. Either way I'm not leaving until our princess is here. I got my second steriod shot for her lungs today. I'm BEYOND nervous. I know this is what's best but I am a perfectionist and this wasn't in the plan. Although things never can be written in stone with pg, I have anxiety beyond belief. I told DH to spend the night at home tonight. I'm not in a L&D room, and this room has an uncomfy recliner. I want him to get a good nights sleep before the maddness. If we do go for the csection tomorrow, it'll be in the evening. I'm NERVOUS yikes!!!

C-Section has been my biggest fear! I'm overweight and have some belly fat, so I'm terrified of the recovery process. Thanks for hearing my story.

Re: 33w3d - Low Fluid.

  • Keep your chin up. It sounds like they're doing everything they can.

Keep that baby cooking as long as you can, every day makes a huge difference.

I won't lie, recovery from a c-section is rough but the bundle of joy in your arms makes it all worth it. Just plan to be very dependent on others for a week or so and then you'll be able to get around better. No lifting though, for 6 weeks. And you'll be on some heavy pain meds, so no driving either. If your Hubby can take time off, that would be a big help. Or maybe family can come help.

    Keep us posted!!

  • Thanks so much ladies. My mom is recently retired so she's stuck on me like glue. DH is going to take time off of work, so I am thankful for that. Will definitely keep you guys updated. Thanks for everything!

  • ::hugs:: Sorry you're here, but welcome, just the same.

Don't freak out about the c-section. Many moms on here had one (myself included) -- it is what it is, let that part go. You'll heal -- it'll be a tough initial couple of days, but once you're beyond that, most of us were feeling close to 100%. It's not as scary as it sounds! And, hopefully, you'll have some advance warning. I knew I'd be a c/s, but I had approximately 3 minutes between finding out that I would be having one...to being put under. Not exactly the ideal birth story. :)

I, too, am completely Type-A, so suffice it to say my emergency c-section and delivery at 29.5 weeks was not in my "plan," but you really just have to let go of what you can't control -- (try to) relax, and definitely vent, reach out for input, etc here as much as you can. Having the time to get the steroid shots in is a big deal -- so celebrate that! And, being nearly 34 weeks -- that's great stuff -- not ideal by any stretch, but in the preemie realm, it's not a bad place to be (for perspective, that's the LONGEST they were going to let me go -- should I have even made it that long!)

  • I hope you can keep your DD cooking as long as possible! I was diagnosed with low fluid at 32 weeks and was on home bedrest until 35+5. I'm not trying to freak you out but my DD was in the NICU for 34 days because her lungs weren't all the way developed, and I had steroid shots too.  But every baby is different! She's 100% fine now though. I also had a c-section because she was still breech. Recovery is fine, just don't be dumb like me and lift heavy boxes lol! I felt it was the only thing I could try and control in DD's room at that point, since she wasn't home with me. It took me longer to recover in the end! Good luck and I really hope you can keep that baby in as long as possible and have no NICU stay. :)

  • Thanks for all advice! I have a low tolerance for pain, however this is my first baby, and it may help me forget about the pain for a while. I absolutely will not be doing anything at home lol. My mom is going to my house to clean and dh will put the cradle our bedroom, we never were able to finish the nnursery.

I have Motrin stocked up, and whatever they give me ill take. I will be drying the incision because I do sweat there. And cleaning it sounds crazy painful but I will do.
Yikes, I just wish we can do this already, the anxiety is killing me.

  • I was in the same boat as you. Mine were delivered at 33w0 and ended up in the nicu for 2 weeks. I was terrified of the surgery but it was easy. I liked the professionalism of the OR, and it made me feel better knowing I had a slew of people watching my babies.

Recovery wasn't that bad. I am a larger person as well, and that didn't matter as far as the healing. Just keep it dry and you will be fine.

I wish I would have been more insistent to see my daughter. They took her away before I was able to see her. It was 19 hours later that I finally did.
  • Don't worry so much about the csection. I am known as a total pain wimp and after three days I was refusing the percocet because it made me groggy and sick and the pain was not that bad at all. I am also a bigger girl with a breech baby and other than some bruising things went pretty well. Just make sure to take it easy and take the stool softener.

Some women swear by the abdominal binder, but I hated mine and the dr. let me take it off the next day. Do what feels right for you.

  • Thanks ladies. We have our csection scheduled for Dec 26 that will put me at 35w4d. Hoping everything goes well. Thanks again! !!

  • My dd was born at 33w 3d and is now a perfectly healthy almost 21 month old. I had the opposite issue: high fluid levels. My water broke and she showed up 5 hours later, via c/s bc she was breech. Good luck on 12/26!!
