Hi everyone. While I haven't posted in a while, I have been lurking here and there. Glad everyone is doing fine (for the most part) and that the babies being born are precious and healthy. Keep on cooking and I can't wait to see everyone's LOs.
It's been over 7 weeks since Jacobs delivery. I haven't had my period yet and I did stop pumping, so theoretically my period should come soon. I made an appointment with my OB to insert the Mirena and it's next week. The OB didn't seem that concerned with me not having my period, but I'm nervous. Is that normal? I would think they would wait until the first menstrual cycle. What are your experiences? Also, how much does it hurt to put it in? How soon after did you do the dirty deed? (It's been a long 3 months for DH and I).

Edit * Duh obviously I don't have an IUD or I wouldn't be PG. lol so dumb of me.
When nursing my periods didn't return until about 7 mo pp. Even those not nursing might not have their periods return yet, but can get iuds.
I had an IUD several years ago, and the insertion was awful for me. However, I've heard that it's easier on women who've given birth before.
I had Mirena, but of course had never been pregnant before. And it was awful. AWFUL. I won't get into details, but I'll just say that I will never do that again. I've heard of plenty of women who have had no problem, though. That seems to be more common.
My experience: I had it for a year and it was great because I had light spotting and no weight gain. I did get some intense cramps randomly so I opted to take it out when we decided to conceive. Because you are relying on the IUD versus taking a pill, you may feel worried at times if it's doing it's job or a lot of what-ifs. I would see if your doctor is specialized in IUDs, my doctor actually went to the Mirena seminars and studied about it before deciding to include it to her practice.

@peanutmuse, i hope its not awful for me. Its my only hope from having super painful periods each month!

FWIW, the removal was painless and I didn't even realize it was out until the dr. Showed it to me. That said, I still don't know if I'd do it again because the insertion hurt that bad.
Good luck with your decision!
ETA: My doctor might have numb me that way because it was an extra procedure to help me feel less pain because I did not give birth at all prior to getting the mirena. They recommend mirena to women who has given birth because I believe they said it is easier to insert it for those who have. Sorry again to scare you
