Baby Blake-PIP-J&JJ2011 Birth Story (Long)

Snippet:  My team green, November turned December baby is finally here!!  With a due date of November 24, and talk throughout the pregnancy of going as early as November 14, Blake Daniel arrived after his due date on December 7, at 3:59 am.  My big belly proved to be accurate by the delivery of an 11 pound, 9 ounce bundle of joy that is 23 inches long.  Have a hereditary history of big babies, but Blake takes the cake size wise by far.

Long:  I started active pre-labor on December 2, with bloody show and significantly increased contractions. Went in for my regular OB appointment on December 4, but was still only about 70% effaced and dilated to 1, planned to go ahead with induction on December 6, at 7:00.  OB still maintained that LO was sub 10 pounds, 5 ounces.  Continued to progress with nausea, vomiting, and really painful irregular contractions.  Woke up Friday at 1:00 am to a really painful contraction and a burst of fluid that was suspected to be my water breaking, so off to triage DH and I went, with me sitting on a puppy pad.

Got to triage and found out I peed myself, but they kept me and wanted me to labor on my own and would start the induction process at 8:00 because that was the plan anyways.  At 8:00, I was still only a 1 at 80% effaced, so they started me out with Foley bulb, 40 minutes later I'm a 4 at 90%.  They started the Pitocin and this is the point where I cave and get the epi.  I immediately feel better and think DH did a little happy dance in the corner that I caved, because this came shortly after he started throwing in his pain scale after each contraction in conjunction with mine.  Steadily progressed throughout the day until about 5:00 pm.  At this point they broke my water and discovered LO had pooed, but they weren't overly concerned at that point.  Around 7:00, I had progressed to 8, but I developed a fever.  My fever caused LO's heart rate to speed up.  This was a concern and they started pumping me with antibiotics and stopped the Pitocin.  For the next hour we were monitored pretty closely, and they introduced me to the peanut ball (if you didn't try it this time around, I highly recommend it in the future!!)  Fever went down and LO's heart rate went back to normal.  They did decide that they wanted to speed up the process, so they upped the Pitocin and pushed forward.  By 12:00, I was a 10, and fully effaced, but LO didn't want to make it's way through the pelvis, so the pushing began.  Hours later, it had only traveled a short distance, so the doctor decided around 3:00 am that LO needed to make an appearance shortly via c-section.

Blake entered into the world at 3:59 am at 11 pounds, 9 ounces; 23 inches long.  He blew the OR crew out of the water with his size and my doctor and I will be having a chat..one of the first things I remember thinking is 10.5, my butt!  I've got to say, the C-section felt nothing like I thought it would, to me, it felt like they were shaking the baby out of me.  Anyway, after the surgery Blake was started on antibiotics as a just in case.  Shortly after I got to see him, I developed the shakes and apparently passed out with him crying in the background and three of my monitors going off about non-urgent things.  I'm a complete blank until about 9:00 am.  Luckily all is well and we got to go home yesterday.  My Factor IV stayed well in check and I didn't end up needing heparin, so I was excited about that.

So glad to have the LO home and safe and sound!  Love him to pieces!!!
