Such a boring topic, I know. I thought I had picked a winner, but after several readings of 95.8 on both M and myself, I'm thinking it's a piece of crap. (Braun thermoscan ear thermometer)
M got her 6 month shots yesterday, plus the flu shot, and felt a little warm this morning, but when I took her temp with our armpit thermometer, it was 98.4. I brought her to daycare and told them to keep an eye on her and take her temp if she still felt warm.
I went there to nurse her on my lunch hour and she felt even warmer to me, and the lady said she had been sleeping most of the morning. VERY unusual for her. So I had them take her temp. First was with a forehead thermometer and read 100.0, then a double check with an armpit one (same one our pedi uses) and it was 101.4. So I brought her home and gave her some Tylenol. About 30 minutes later, I took her temp again with our armpit one, and it was 97.4! Wth. And the ear one said 95.8, like it always does.
tl;dr I have a lot of time on my hands this afternoon and want thermometer recommendations.

Re: Recommend your thermometer.
We have this as well and really like it. I think consumer reports tested it and gave it high marks for reliability.
Also, we have one that you can swap out the tips for how you are taking it - rectal, under arm, and tongue. We take a rectal temp usually if we are uncertain or if he's too squirelly for the exergen. I can't remember the brand name though!!
It's amazing to me how temperatures can vary so much with different thermometers. S was sent home from school yesterday too because the ear thermometer they used said her temp was 101.1 even though both their temporal one and ours said 99.4.
