How often do you....

play music to your baby? what kind of music do you play for your baby? I've been doing it throughout the day, playing almost everything from instrumental to country. I also try to sing to her, but I think she secretly dislikes it since I sing horribly haha. Also any bilingual mommies out there speaking to their babies in a different language? I talk to her in spanish but I don't think I'm doing it enough, so I play some Shakira for her sometimes (she's one of my favorite spanish singers).

Re: How often do you....

  • He hears country music in the car every day to and from daycare. He hears the “Hot Dog Song” when DS1 watches Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He hears the classical music on his Seahorse about 17x/night. Annnnd, that’s about it.  I know they do music and song time at his daycare and honestly, I’m not too worried about his exposure to music. I figure if he hears it, great. If not, NBD. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

  • There's almost always some kind of music going on in my house.  Between playing things on the iPod, the TV, his toys, me singing to him, music in the car...he hears lots of music!  He likes when I sing to him, I can get a big smile on his face.  Lately he's digging "Jingle Bells," but I sing a lot of Beatles and show tunes (apparently those are the songs I know the most words to, haha).

  • We just play our ipod through the dock in the living room and if I'm cleaning or hanging out with them I put on the toddler station of our cable music channels.

DH mainly speaks to our kids in Spanish and I use English. DS (2.5 years old) is completely bilingual but I think it's because his babysitter speaks to him in Spanish 100% of the time. They need to hear it a lot to really pick it up because they are surrounded by English all the time. Now that he's old enough to watch some TV I try to put on kids shows in Spanish instead of English when I can. Every little bit helps.

  • I'm always playing music so Caleb hears it all the time. Lately it's been my Christmas playlist, but when he wakes up in the morning and he's happy and we're playing, we listen to Disney sountracks (he likes Lion King, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and Mary Poppins... okay maybe that's what I like...). I despise most kids music that I've heard, so I will probably steer clear.

  • We play music a lot in our home. It is mostly Christian music or Disney stuff.

  • I play music all the time. His favorites seem to be Dolly Parton and Elvis, but I think that may be because DD and I dance to it all the time and he likes that.

  • Not enough. I sing to her constantly, poor thing. Her first words are going to be "Shut up now."

  • Lots of music and all kinds. It's really soothing and he loves when I hold him close on my hip and dance with him. Not really any 'kid' music yet. I figure eventually I'll get there!
  • I will add that we play a lot of reggae for Ky. He loves it. Like ravenclaw I think it is because of the repetitive beat.

  • Yes and right no, Christmas music. When January comes along, it will be back to the margaritaville station in Sirius
  • Our baby listens to everything! I play the piano for her a lot - either she sits near the piano in her RnP or I wear her in my K'Tan. I play anything from classical to Disney.

She listens to classical music whenever she naps. Every time. And when she's awake, I play more upbeat stuff like hip hop or pop.

My husband and I both love 90's hip hop & R&B so she also listens to that whenever we're driving.

And I suck at singing but she likes when I sing (I think). It calms her down when she's crazy. I usually sing Somewhere Over The Rainbow or Seasons of Love from Rent.
