Pregnancy reveal ideas

edited December 2013 in August 2014 Moms
So I just found out, I'm estimated at 4w3d and I'm not telling family until Christmas... I've been looking for ideas and the one I keep coming back to is wrapping my first ultrasound picture for each of the parents so they can open them at the same time. My first appointment is the 23rd so it would be just in time. Any ideas?

By the way, this is the first pregnancy.

I think that's a great idea! For my first baby I gave my mom a pandora charm that said nana. With this baby, I'm going to have dd unwrap a sign that says, "sometimes being a big sister is better than being a princess".

You could also have your parents
unwrap some kind of grandparents item.
  • Its not a FTM idea, but we are going to have DS wear a shirt that says he is being promoted to big brother.  I'm so excited, I'm going to have my mom remove his sweater which will have that underneath.

  • I saw a video on YouTube where they put a bunch of helium filled balloons in a box.  When it was opened they floated out and attached to the strings was an ultrasound picture.  I thought that was a pretty neat idea.

  • So many cute ideas!! Thanks everyone. It's KILLING me to wait. I'll at least wait until Christmas Eve though :)
  • Dh wants to put an extra gift under the tree to the family from Santa. Then inside put an ornament, or baby shoes or something for the grandparents to unwrap. This is our 3rd

  • We're first timers and my nick name is high school was 'muff' ... Long story but basically last name was Imhoff... Pronounced Em-off so it got shortened...

Anyway we're making cards the picture at the top will be of DH an I opening the oven with a big muffin inside with a bow in it... Tag line will be 'there's a muffin in the oven' and below is an egg timer that reads August 2014.

Can easily be done with a 'bun'.

Also, a TON of great ideas on Pinterest.
  • I got a shirt for my brother to open in front of everyone on Christmas that says "this guy is going to be an Uncle. "

  • I'm excited to read all the ideas.  This is our third (and last) and my parents will not be excited.  My last pregnancy was very medically challenging on me and up until a few months ago, I never considered another pregnancy because of all the risks with #2.  However, they will learn to accept it knowing I am so much healthier this time around.  I'm not sure if a big fun reveal would be best or just a quiet phone call with no fanfare.

  • This is going to be our first baby and we are very excited! I am 23 but VERY nervous about reactions. Every time I think about it I feel like I am going to faint! Anyone else like this?  My parents are coming in state for Christmas( we are in VA, family is in OH), since I wont have my first U/S until January 7th we bought a plain white newborn shirt and will write on it " Baby Wiley coming in August" for them to un-wrap. For my husbands family(who have been wanting us to have a baby for a long time now) and our friends we will wrap some significant baby items that his mom got us when we miscarried that we looked at again and again together and said I cant wait until we can use this. His mom is going to be so excited and we will make a special trip home the first of January to tell them!

  • @Clwiley I'm 38 and a mother of 2 and feel like this about telling my parents.  They thought (and so did I honestly for about 6 years) that we were finished having kids but you know, sometimes things change!  They will not be excited in the beginning because of the serious medical issues I had with my last pregnancy, but they will warm up I'm sure as so much has improved with my health the past 6 years.

We bought a Big Brother shirt for Finn to wear in front of our families.  The reactions have been interesting so far.  DH's family took like an hour to even notice and then his mom asked "What does that mean?".

My mom noticed pretty quickly but my dad just stood there looking confused.  Not a surprise, haha!

My sister arrives from Hawaii with her 2 month old on Tuesday so I'll put the shirt on Finn again.  She'll probably make some comment about not sleeping since she's currently not getting much sleep.

As far as telling the world, we'll probably attempt some sort of cute picture with a sign to put on FB.  My sister announced by taking a picture of 2 adult beach chairs and one kid sized beach chair on the beach in Hawaii and that was super cute.  I've also recently seen friends take a picture at Disney World (they live nearby) holding a button that says "Baby's 1st trip to Disney."

  • I love DIY projects so we're going to put a note inside a box that says "Sorry this DIY project won't arrive until August 2014!" With a Congrats Grandpa card and possibly a onesie/bib. My husband has this ridiculous idea that he's going to get an ultrasound picture and photoshop his picture onto the babies head. Uh... YOU'RE the father of my baby?! Lol. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll have an u/s picture because my Dr. is taking her sweet time scheduling me due to our military insurance.

I think our annoucement to friends/facebook (in late January/February) will be a picture of Hubby in his military cammies/uniform and I'll hand him some diapers and it'll say "_____ is reporting for a new kind of duty in August." I'm so excited! Pray this bean sticks! Every day I pray that the Lord graces my womb and makes me a strong vessel for this baby.
  • @scaura It's nice to know someone else is nervous about it too! Well I hope the best to you and your pregnancy, and good luck telling everyone :)

  • @clwiley YES, I'm 23 and I am beyond nervous about telling my mom!!
  • We're waiting until probably the end of January to tell anyone. I had a miscarriage in April this year and we want to make sure I'm going to stay pregnant before we share.

But, when we do tell, I'll put a big sister shirt on DD when we visit.

  • I am thinking of getting this personalized Christmas ornament (obviously change to the names to our own), one for each family.  We'd have them open it as a gift when we celebrate Christmas with them.

  • so many cute ideas! I love the countdown blocks for first-time grandma!

If we reveal on Xmas morning, I bought J a Big Brother tee and will have him wear it to my mom's (with my brother there too). We will video J opening my IL's presents at home, with a view of the shirt. I haven't decided if this is the plan or if we'll wait a little bit longer...

  • My parents and in laws are coming to my place for Christmas Eve (our first holiday), so we'll hang three stockings on the fireplace instead of two (this is our first), with the smaller stocking in the middle that says "baby's first Christmas 2014".... Well see how long it takes them to notice!
  • I almost accidentally and prematurely revealed the pregnancy to my SIL the other day!  She stopped by our house briefly to pick something up from DH, and I had a large brochure from a local daycare center sitting out in plain view on the kitchen island.  I don't think she noticed it, or she certainly didn't let on that she did, and once I realized it I nonchalantly covered it up while she and my DH were talking.  Whoops!  She and MIL will be over Friday night, so I better cover all tracks of this pregnancy by then!

  • Hallmark makes a cute "countdown to grandbaby" or "countdown to baby" clock that is just adorable. We gave that to our parents for the reveal and it made everyone cry.

For the extended family reveal, I'm doing something more subtle, I'm wearing a "Due in August" necklace (etsy has a ton of them) and I'm just going to wear it to xmas dinner! Let's see who's the 1st one to notice! ;)

    i'm loving all these ideas!

I'm planning on having DS open a present in front of family that has an ornament on it that'll say "Big Brother, August 2014."
  • That's what I did. I made frames for my dad and IL's that said First Grandchild and put our 8wk ultrasound in them. I gave my mama and her husband one that said Nana and papa since they're already grandparents by my stepsister. With this one I'll be giving my parents a shirt from DS that says Big brother.

This is the perfect card for MIL, cuz I'm pretty sure that's gonna be her reaction! I seriously laughed for about sixty seconds straight at this.

  • We gave both moms Happy Mother's Day Grandma cards last time since we found out on Mother's Day.

This time we'll have both sets of grandparents open a Christmas present at the same time (they're all coming over Christmas morning). It will be a grandparents frame with a picture of DD wearing the big sister shirt I made when I announced to DH.

I think that's my plan, although it's subject to change. :)

  • Where did you get this? I love it!
  • I Bought Mugs For Our Parents That Say "The Best Dads/Moms Get promoted To Grandpa/Grandma" I'm Wrapping Them And GiVing Them For Christmas
    photo c9f20a08-e61b-4141-972e-d243ea91d7a9.jpg
  • We are telling our family with these! :-)
  • Okay, so a few days ago I didn't want to tell anyone until 12 weeks. But now that I realized that I'm 2 weeks further along than I thought due to my miscalculation, Christmas will be a 9 weeks... so now we're debating telling people provided my first appt next week goes well. I was thinking of getting empty grandma photo albums with a note inside saying 'pictures to come in 2014' or something.
  • My brother and SIL are about 15 weeks pregnant at the moment, so DH and I are going to get my parents shirts that say "I'm going to be a grandma again" and give it to them for Christmas.  This is the first grandchild on DH's side, so we're getting his parents mugs that say "The best dads/moms get promoted to grandpa/grandma" and they're getting them on Christmas as well.

  • I am really excited about this idea to announce to our family at Christmas.  We're buying a nice bottle of wine from the winery in the city that we recently moved to and attaching a cute tag that I made that says "drink this for me, I'll join you next year, baby simon coming August 2014" in a couple cool fonts.  I saw the tags on Etsy and just copied them to fit our need. =)
  • I'm going make a sign the says "Promotion to Big Brother August 2014" frame it and take a picture of said sign and LO and send them out to people. We live far away from family and the like so. I think this is for the best.
