Do Braxton Hicks get worse in cold weather?

I'm 33 weeks pregnant with my second child. I've been having Braxton Hicks for a while, but usually I only notice them by accident (like when I rest my hand on my belly and notice that it is tight).

I live in Minneapolis; today the high was -1 F. I went out this evening, and in the short walk from my door across the driveway to my car I noticed a quick, strong, Braxton Hicks (BH) contraction coming on. I was only outside briefly to enter/exit the house/car/store/car/house again. Since that point a couple hours ago, I've been having noticeably stronger BH.

Google has unfortunately proven fruitless. Has anyone else had similar experiences in this cold weather?

Thanks!

Re: Do Braxton Hicks get worse in cold weather?

  • I was due last March and never noticed a correlation between cold and BH contractions.

  • I've never heard of a cold weather correlation.  My BH contractions were more frequent and noticeable during my second pregnancy, especially the further along I got (same with RLP).    Were you tensing your muscles more in reaction to cold weather?  I would think that could be enough exertion to cause them.  Are you drinking enough water?  It's so dry right now and dehydration can cause them.

  • The pattern has continued over the past couple days; I'm having strong BH very consistently whenever I go out in the cold. But, now that you mention dehydration, I realize I'm not drinking as much water in this weather, so that could be it!

    Thanks for the input!!
