Opk question

Based on the advice of the posters on here I decided to start using OPKs again. I use the strips and the most recent had a second faint line. I know that means there is no LH surge currently because the second line has to be just as dark or darker than the first. But does a faint line mean anything? Does it indicate you are getting close to LH surge? Or is it completely irrelevant and meaningless?

Re: Opk question

  • Mine slowly gets darker over three days an is usually dark for 2 days....for months on end I have had sex when the line is dark, but this month I'm going to try having sex when the line starts to show up faint (I'm hoping tomorrow!).

Does anyone use the clear blue easy super expensive ovulation test? I think it is over 100 dollars.

    Me: 33, DH: 32

    TTC: 2 years
    Fertility blood tests all normal
    Tilted uterus
    3 day ultrasound 17 follicles
    HSG: 11/13/13- tubes open
DH SA: SUPER sperm (145 million, 84% motility, 22% morphology)
All infection disease and immunity blood tests NORMAL

FIRST IUI May 2014: 100 mg Clomid days 5-9, third ultrasound CD 13 revealed four follicles 27, 24 and 20 and 13mm. Trigger shot May 28 with IUI May 29 and 30 (fingers crossed) - BFN started spotting 11DPO :(

IUI #2 B2B 6/23 and 6/24, three mature eggs and 130 million sperm! FX this is the month!  BFN 7/8

3rd cycle benched due to cysts - TI with OPK tests -  BFN

3rd mediated cycle: Clomid+Trigger+TI  (three follies left side, one on right as usual....what the hell right ovary get it together and produce some damn follicles!) 7DPO progesterone level 43 with NO suppositories YAY for a natural strong ovulation. Beta canceled started spotting 13DPO - Third time is not a CHARM! 14 day cycle WTF! Everything looks normal - RE wants to start injectables next cycle so this cycle I'm benched

Officially benched until March....but still plan on trying the baking soda douche due to my excessive and thick CM

JANUARY SIGGY CHALLENGE...This is so me!

  • I thought I was on the Trouble TTC board (LOL)....as you can see I have unexplained infertility, so having sex when the OPKs are positive so far has not worked for us.

  • Yeah this whole "faint = negative" is weird to me. Since all the other tests we do in our clinic (strep, flu, pregnancy, etc) are all "faint = positive". Still throwing me for a loop. Anyway, it does seem to mean negative for me as well (the few times I have had a faint).
  • Mostly irrelevant. Some women have a fade in pattern where the line slowly gets darker, but many do not.
Yep. This is the reason why I chucked the OPK's and charted. My charts showed clear ovulation patterns month after month but the OPKs left me scratching my head. Some months I had a fade-in, others I didn't, and some months when my chart confirmed O I never saw a +OPK at all.

@Tiko99 - I used a CBEFM for a few cycles. I wouldn't waste your money, honestly. If you bought it now, you'd wind up using 20 sticks for it (it takes several cycles for it to figure you out so it makes you POAS for a much longer window at first in order to see when you might be ovulating before narrowing down that window) and the sticks are like twice the price of regular OPKs. It also won't work if your upcoming IUI is medicated (Clomid, injects/other follicle stimulating drugs throw it off) so it's not really worth it then, either.
