Sleeping Position

Baby #2 is 6 weeks old and will NOT sleep on his back. He will lay on his back and play on the play mat or even just chill on his Bumbo. But when I get him to sleep and lay him on his back he wakes up instantly. Anyone else having this problem? So far we've slept holding him in a recliner at night. During the day I have put him on his stomach and he sleeps awesome. (Please don't attack) I ordered a rock and play hoping the incline will help. Any other thoughts or suggestions? Thanks in advance!

Re: Sleeping Position

  • I have not posted on here in forever, and generally tend to lurk, but I was in the same situation so I will offer the advice if can. The Rock and Play is a life saver, I swaddle my LO with one arm out and put her to bed in the Rock and Play. She is sleeping 4 hour stretches now and seems content. I will eventually get her in the crib, but for now I am just happy she is sleeping on her own and on her back. I hope you have the same success! Good luck!

  • If he is swaddled then obviously he will sleep on his back, but if not he will make his way to his side which scares this momma:(
  • She will sleep ok on her back if swaddled, otherwise she sleeps on my chest tummy down. I have also allowed her to nap, on a blanket fully supervised, on her tummy. She seems to sleep best if she can tuck her legs up under her. We never let her belly sleep overnight.

  • Our LO wasn't sleeping well either, and would roll onto his side in the PNP. Now he's started sleeping flat on his back in his crib without a problem, but that's now that his reflux is being well-controlled.
  • Ours is the same way, the rnp is a life saver... She will sleep in it. Good luck!
  • My lo sleeps on me at night on the recliner, in the day time in the swing. I need to start putting him in the pnp at night to sleep but it is so much raise waking up to feed him when he fusses and before he cries in the middle of the night. Also when we first got home from the hospital, when we put him in the pnp to sleep he would instantly roll on his back and it made me uncomfortable letting him sleep like that. He is one month today.
  • I slept my daughter on her belly and my son now as well... I tried back and it just wasn't working for either of them. I'm up every 2 hours with my son so I don't feel super concerned with the belly sleeping. Plus he's on a firm mattress, no blankets etc.

To me the sleep position goes along with the sleep location... It can be safe if you are doing it properly.
