movin on up

in Feb DS will be moving up to the waddler room with all kids 12-18 mos old. They have a set nap time from 1230-230...but I am not in a rush to "ween" DS off his morning nap. He wakes up anywhere btwn 6 and 7 and i just think he will be too tired staying up for that long. Do any of your LOs this age still take more than one nap a day at day care. I realize it wont be lights out and quiet but if he still wants to sleep for a half hour or an hour at 9am, i think he should be able to. I havent asked day care how this works yet.....

Re: movin on up

  • I honestly wouldn't worry too much, there's still plenty of time, he may start dropping the nap on his own. Also many kids nap more on the weekends at home than they do at daycare during the week, so he could easily continue 2 naps at home.

DS napped terribly in the baby room, like 30mins/day. Once he moved up to toddlers he took a solid 1.5hr nap with all the other kids. Made things soo much better!

  • When my DS moved up to the room that is for 12-18 months he gradually just dropped the AM nap.  If he was tired they did lay him down in the morning but that only lasted a couple of weeks as he adjusted to the transition.  The room has such a different activity level that he just kept going, ate lunch and then napped.  Check with your center on how they will handle the transition.

That's exactly what happened to my DS.  He still takes a morning nap on weekends at home, but generally does not take one at DC.  On days that he is very tired his DC teachers put him down for a nap (they have a separate room for naps)
  • Both my kids adjusted to the one nap a day at daycare while still taking two a day at home. I would let it go.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • I don't think they're going to stop him if he lays down and goes to sleep, but I doubt they'll break out the cot just for him.

My DS takes one 2.5ish hour nap after lunch at daycare. On the weekends he usually still takes two, two hour naps. It's awesome and I will appreciate it while I can and the fact that he is flexible about it.
  • I was super worried about this transition with my oldest DS as well. He adjusted to the 1 afternoon nap after about a month @ 12 mos. I would do like pp's suggested and continue with the 2 naps at home on the weekend.

  • DS takes one nap at DC but still naps twice at home on the weekends. DC continued to lay him down for a morning nap like we requested, but he was so preoccupied with everything going on around him, he never napped. Even though it bothered me at first, I got over it. He does fine. He's just a little more tired on those nights.

Ok great thanks. I guess I will do the same and see if he sleeps or not.  In the waddler room he still has a crib, not a cot. so maybe that will help....
