Just curious, when (how long pp) were you allowed to get up, eat, shower, etc? I know recovery is different for everyone….

12 hours to walk around, eat was like 20 hours, shower was after 24 hours

it's been 7 days and I feel great, a little gas and once in a while my
Stiches burn but that's it

Here was the protocol in my hospital:

-- clear liquids: in recovery, though I couldn't keep anything down until the next morning

-- solid food: 18 hours after

-- standing: 12-ish hours?

--walking (to bathroom post catheter): 18 hours

After that, I was clear to do pretty much everything. I waited to shower until closer to 24 hours after, because the first walk was tough.

After discharge from the hospital:

-- remove steri-strips: 1 week after discharge

-- driving: 2 weeks after discharge

-- stairs: 2 flights a day for 2 weeks (though she said a few more would be OK)

-- lift "nothing heavier than your daughter"-- not sure how long (2 or 6 weeks?)

-- light walking (no major exercise) until follow up at 6 weeks

I recovered fairly well, so these are the standard ones. You may need more time if your recovery is tougher.

After the c-section I couldn't get up for 12 hours, they also told me not to talk ( to avoid gas) and not lift my head.
After that is what people said.
I recovered very well, no pain at all and after 1 weeks had my stitches removed. I am also wearing an attic girdle that's supposed to help the feeling that everything is tight and in the right place.

Had c/s at 8:30pm. They had me sit up and hang my legs over the bed in the middle of the night around 2:30 I think. In the morning I stood up and tried to take a few steps. Ate a full breakfast in the morning...thank god. Catheter out by that afternoon so I tried to get up and walk every two hours to pee and walk around.

12 hours of bed rest, on a clear liquid diet the first day. When I started passing gas they gave me the ok to eat anything that would be gentle on my stomach to not rush a bowel movement. So eat like you have a cold. Walking is still rough, I'm on day 4 and I waddle like a 90 year old. Also don't be afraid to ask for stronger meds. They only started me on motrin and morphine. When they took out my iv I was only getting motrin and I felt sawed in half.

My CS was at 9:30 am. I was trying to get up at like 4ish I think. I also ate lunch that day around 3pm I think. The times are a bit fuzzy but I know I was standing and trying to walk pretty soon and I did eat. Later in the day I made it to the bathroom in my room. By 9:30pm, I was able to go down to the NICU to see DD. Like @KFED103 said, once I was up and moving they removed the cath so then I was up more to use the bathroom.

Yup, once that morphine wears off, it's a major pain reality check. I was like...give me ALL the Percocet

This is good to read, thanks ladies. I will have my first cs on the 26th, if I don't go into labor before then. When I talked to my doc on Monday, he said I could eat whatever I want once any nausea is gone; catheter will stay in place for first full day; sitting upright by 6 hours post surgery.

I'm hoping recovery will be similar to recovery from my tubal reversal, which was not bad. Doc said they'd use the same incision, only difference is that they'll be cutting through my uterus too. After my tubal reversal, I was walking within 4 hours of surgery, ate a cheeseburger for dinner, and was home the next day after a 12 hour car ride (went to a surgeon several states away who has a high success rate).

@sammichcat both times I have started nursing in a football hold to keep pressure off my incision. After a few days I laid her across my body on a Boppy to nurse since that is what I prefer. Sitting up to get baby out of the hospital bassinet can be difficult but do NOT forget to use the hospital bed adjustments to sit up and recline. And make sure you ask for a belly pressure band right away.

Eating -- clear liquids as soon as I was off the table. Solids as soon as I could tolerate it which was 6 hours post op, an hour after making it to my room/out of recovery.

Getting up -- Got up with catheder and all attached at about 9-10 hours post op, but wasn't allowed up whenever I wanted until 26 hours post-op, due to waiting around for a doctor, and then DS feeding when they came to remove everything.

Shower -- as soon as I could get up and they were sure I wouldn't fall, so, 26 hours post-op.

IV removed -- day before I was discharged, so I had it in for 3 days, with nothing going through it the last two.

That's what I've gotten through so far this time around -- I'm still on the 'no lifting anything heavier than baby' thing, and other restrictions are the same as standard. I think.
