Nursing moms: snack suggestions?

please tell me I'm not the only one who is so hungry all the time!

Any good snack suggestions? Bonus points if they are dairy free. I think cutting dairy for LO's reflux is making me even hungrier.

Some snacks I've been having are popcorn w coconut oil, chips and guac, hummus and pretzels and bananas w almond butter. I tried almond yogurt but it tasted awful.

Re: Nursing moms: snack suggestions?

  • Coconut yogurt is worlds better than almond yogurt.  The texture of almond yogurt is foul!!

Veggies and hummus, make your own trail mix -- your choice of raw nuts and raisins (add carob chips for "chocolate" fix), fruit leather, hard-boiled eggs, fruit salad, beef or turkey jerky, etc.

We eat clean -- fruit, vegetables, eggs, nuts (no peanuts) and meat.  So, anything that falls into these categories would be fair game for you since there are no dairy products.

  • Another vote for coconut yogurt. I switched to that when I was dairy free also (DS is on Neocate now). I pretty much lived on granola bars for a few weeks. I like to make sure to have fresh fruit and veggies on hand. Sunday afternoon I cut up cantaloupe, oranges, and jicama and put that in individual servings sizes of Tupperware. Sugar snap peas and carrot sticks are handy also, and edamame if you're not dealing with a soy allergy.
  • I've been eating Cliff Bars, pieces of cheese, pieces of fruit - that sort of thing.  My MIL also brings me sandwiches sometimes; the best ones are almond butter on raisin bread with dried cherries or bananas or apples inside.  We also had a big bag of CostCo trail mix that was really good.

  • Apples are my go-to, but we keeps pretty stocked on a variety of fruits and veggies (whatever is on sale), PB&J, cereal, mixed nuts, cheese.

    Totally starving ALL THE TIME!
  • I don't have any suggestions, but I am totally in the same boat. I feel like my stomach has turned into a bottomless pit and it doesn't seem to matter what I eat or how much, which probably just says I need to make sure I eat a crap ton more than what I have been. It's hard to find time to make a meal, so snack suggestions would be very helpful.

  • My diet consists of a big bowl of oatmeal with raisins in the morning, one other normal meal throughout the day and then endless amounts of buttered popcorn rice cakes and graham crackers.  I have got to find some other(healthier) snack.  Thanks for starting this thread!
  • A fork and a huge chunk of birthday cake eaten at your counter? No? Not what you were thinking of??? Haha sorry just had to share my snack from yesterday after reading everyone else's healthy options. :-S

  • Smoothies are awesome bc you can throw many different combinations of food together. Coconut milk beverage as a base is great, and throwing a little soaked oatmeal (not good for you otherwise) or chia seeds give it more substance with fruits and veggies. I find so many recipes for smoothies on Tastespotting.com. Highly recommend that site!

  • I don't eat dairy either. Granola bars are the easiest for me at night. During the day I'll have oatmeal, leftovers, hummus and pita chips, nuts and fruit, cereal with almond milk. Unfortunately, Christmas cookies have recently been making a strong showing on my snack list.
