Late Term and Child Loss

impending miscarriage...

Hello Ladies, I am here because I was told a week ago that there was no growth and no longer a heartbeat.  I have had a few US because of bleeding and then a possible BO. I had seen a heartbeat 2 weeks ago but couldn't hear it.  I went in for another last week and no heartbeat was found and everything was measuring the same as the week before.  I was 7 weeks when I found out.  I am currently hoping this miscarriage will happen naturally but am getting frustrated because although I am sad about my loss I want to get back to TTC again.  I have an appointment on Monday to discuss using medication and then if that doesn't work I will have a D&C.  If you ladies don't mind sharing I would like some insight into using medication and its effects and also if you chose a D&C why you did.  This is my first pregnancy so I am scared about what is going on.  I have a friend who has gone through a loss and has been a great support but she miscarried naturally and I am worried about if I don't mc naturally.  Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Re: impending miscarriage...

  • Most of the ladies here have lost a child later in pregnancy or after they were born; neither of those therapies would be appropriate in those situations. However, I have read that for some early miscarriages (mostly I have learned from the IF board, and also the MC board) methotrexate is administered, and if that doesn't work then a d and c is performed. I don't think anyone willingly chooses d and c except if the methotrexate doesn't work or if they have a specific circumstance which would require them to forgo the metho. I could be wrong though. Ask lots of questions at your appt, since you have one coming up, about what would best be appropriate for your situation.
