How will/did you reveal?

It seems we've got a lot of creative ladies on this board, so I'm curious to hear about how you revealed the sex, or plan to if you haven't (or don't know it) yet?

Our initial plan was to find out the sex at our 20 week u/s, which is 12/23.  So when we see our families for the holidays, we were going to take a cake, with either a pink or blue layer of frosting in the middle.

Due to a little scare and an ultrasound to check on things, we actually found out the day before Thanksgiving.  Knowing there was going to be tons of pie, I decided to forgo the cake idea. I bought a bunch of little blue ornaments and put them in a black gift bag with white tissue paper.  When everyone got together for Thanksgiving, I had my mom reach in and draw one out of the bag... revealing that it was blue.  Then everyone got an ornament.

  • I was all set on doing customized M&Ms with whatever colour it's going to be and write It's a boy/girl on some, and the name the baby's going to have on others. Put them in bags so they can't see the colours until they open it. I really wanted to do that.. then I checked shipping for Canada and..... it's minimum $40 just for shipping. so there goes that idea! but, hey, if you want to do it if you're in US, I think it's awesome! sometimes there's free shipping coupons for USA only.
  • My sons birthday is tomorrow. We are wrapping a 'little bro' onesie and throwing it in the mix with his presents for him to open. No one even know we found out the sex so EVERYONE will be surprised :D
  • We will (hopefully) find out on he 21st. Our plan is to buy "it's a ____" helium balloons for each set of grandparents and wrap them up as Christmas presents so that when the box is opened the balloon pops out.
  • Hopefully finding out on Christmas Eve. So Christmas day, the theme will be "Tie or pearls will Santa bring a boy or girl?" My parents will open a box with a tie or pearls in it! I'm mainly doing it to get great photos.

  • You guys have great ideas!! We were supposed to find out on the 23rd but my midwive gave me a surprise ultrasound and we found out yesterday that were having our third girl! I got too excited and called everyone lol but we are going to surprise hubby's parents on Christmas but just unsure on how

  • We found out early as well and we are having a little gender get together party. I was thinking of doing the cake idea but then I saw an idea for a black balloon and you fill it with pink or blue confetti. I think we're going to have our daughter pop it in front of everyone!
  • We will (hopefully) be finding out on Dec 21.  We are having gender reveal cupcakes made, so either pink or blue icing hidden in the middle of cupcakes.  We will serve them with DH's family on the 21st (their xmas dinner) and on xmas even with my family.

  • We are going to get a big box and full it with either pink or blue balloons. Then we will let dd open it so all the balloons fly out. If we find out before Christmas, we'll do it then. If not, we'll do it on New Years. Some family will be there and the rest will see. Picture or video. A/s isn't scheduled yet but I'll be 20 weeks the 30th.

  • I'm so lame.  I just called everyone and told them and then posted it on FB.  I did however make my sister wait and watch the ultrasound to find out...her reaction was awesome.

  • We find out the 20th and my moms family Christmas is that day so I think we're going to put either pink or blue helium balloons in a box and have my mom open it. But I might come up with a different way to tell them.
  • I attempted to make these cookies to give my family tonight at dinner.

But, I am no baker, and they look pretty hideous. But they have blue M&M's inside and will do the trick. I always think these baking projects appear so simple and they never end up that way!

  • I don't do big announcements. Maybe I'm jaded, but I just don't think the general public cares whether I'm having a boy or a girl or even that I'm having a baby at all.

We're having an elective ultrasound the Saturday before Christmas, and a few immediate family members are going with us and will find out when we do. After that I'll probably just say "It's a ___!" on FB for those few friends who actually want to know. Anyone else can figure it out through conversation and from the items on the baby registries.

  • My mom has been very excited (first grandchild, and I'm an only child so her only chance for becoming a grandma). She has been buying knitting patterns and asking me about what types of fibers of yarn I like best, she wants to make things for baby.

Anatomy scan is Dec 10, and as long as baby cooperates we are going to put pink or blue yarn in a box and wrap it for Christmas, and that will be the last gift she opens as the finale. I think it is the perfect way for her to find out.

I can't decide if I should let my dad find out by witnessing that, or tell him secretly before, or something else. He knows when the anatomy scan is and he knows my plan for telling mom. I probably will just let him find out that way but am open to other ideas.

@goodgalpal why don't you have him open a gift at the same time. I like the yarn idea for your mom, but you could do an "I love my Grandfather" bib in pink or blue for him and have them open then at the same time.
  • I was really excited to do a reveal on Christmas Day because my one dr told me to schedule my ultrasound before Christmas and now the other dr won't let me schedule it until the 30th. I'm bummed and my family was really excited(especially my younger cousins) and were coming up with all kinds of reveal ideas.
Can anyone come up with any good reveal ideas for after christmas? I am drawing a blank because I was so excited about doing it on Christmas and can't get it out of my mind. Also, something for family I won't see?
  • We are finding out today (happy dance) and our parents are coming for din later. Each will have a little Christmas box to open and in it will be a blue or pink ornament that says It's a Girl/Boy. Nothing too crazy. Then we are going to have the tech take a pic of us at the scan with a sign that says one or the other and post that on FB later. It will be our first FB baby post.

This.  We called everyone and told them (family/close friends) then posted on FB a few days later.  We did the same when we found out about DS.

  • We're going to find out 12/18 and have the tech put it in an envelope, bring the envelop to Yankee Candle Village, and let one of the workers pick an ornament with the gender and wrap everything up to be opened on Christmas Day. We were planning on getting one for each of our parents too :).
  • @deanna1313, a New Years Reveal could be so fun and cute (if of course you can keep yourself up that long)! A reveal at midnight with color confetti? You could come up with so many other cute ideas for this that are less messy too :).
  • We will (hopefully) find out on he 21st. Our plan is to buy "it's a ____" helium balloons for each set of grandparents and wrap them up as Christmas presents so that when the box is opened the balloon pops out.
We are doing this too.  I will probably post a some sort of announcement pic on fb on Christmas too and somehow incorporate blue/pink or something about the sex too.  Only family and close friends know about the pregnancy right now.

  • I would like to get cupcakes with either pink or blue frosting on the inside to announce to the immediate family.
And I was thinking about doing pictures to announce online of me blowing either blue or pink glitter toward the camera for the extended family.
  • @DoodleDara thanks for the awesome idea. I think I can hold it in for a couple days. Love the confetti idea and I'll get over the mess. Haha!

I'm giving into an elective U/S so I can tell my mom in person if she will have a granddaughter or grandson. I live a state over so when I found out I was pregnant I had to tell her over the phone. My DH and I are going to announce at our annual, week before Christmas get together, with my side of the family and best friends. They all are excited for our family to have some good news since my father passed over the summer. They were planning on doing a pole/ bet on if it will be a girl or boy that evening. They won't know that we chose to have an elective u/s earlier that day, so it will be fun surprising them! OP I love your idea of giving everyone an ornament in either pink or blue, since we will give each other gifts that night. I hope you don't mind if I use it?

  • I did mine on his mom birthday my husband and his & my whole family didn't know i surprising them that night
  • I wrapped up a cute boy outfit and took pictures of hubby and I opening the present and posted them all on Facebook and announced his name on the " tag " on the gift.
  • I texted everyone and said "its a boy!!" Worked for us! :)
