NBR health insurance for the self employed

I am currently off of work for this bad pregnancy but looking to really stay at home next year for my babes. Dh is a realtor which is considered self employed. This means we will have to purchase healthcare on our own for a family AH! I've researched some big companies and even Obama care ( don't even get me started on this topic insert eye roll) and couldn't find anything under $800 a month. I am in Ohio where the cost of living is low so $800 a month is a lot! Does anyone have a good provider or ideas how they've found affordable health care being self employed. It stinks that the only thing it will come down to (me working or not) is health insurance . I would like to learn about a Mha if you have any details. I also plan to do something part time for extra cash and my sanity but I'm pretty sure I wouldn't get benefits.

  • We have Priority Health. It's like $300 a month with a super high deductible. We go through a local insurance guy. All of LO well child visits are covered and preventive care is covered. However, we do not have maternity coverage. When I get pregnant and we need the maternity rider, we will be paying $800 a month. Not fun!!

  • We looked into this too. DH would pay about $280/month with a $8k deductible. That is just for himself.

  • I paid a pretty reasonable amount for a blue cross blue shield of georgia insurance plan while DH was unemployed.  It covered me and DD1 at the time, (DH just got his healthcare through the VA,) but didn't include perinatal care... It cost me $142 a month, though this was before obamacare went into effect, so I wouldn't be surprised if the same plan will cost a lot more at the first of the year (and also probably cover more.)

Anyway, I found it by comparing plans on ehealthinsurance.com, so you could check out what's available in your area on a site like that to help you know what the rates are like from different providers without having to call for quotes from each of them.
