MIA for a Bit

Hey Girls,

I've been missing for a bit... Quite the couple of weeks we've had... We lost a dear friend in a tragic car accident on Thanksgiving, Bert has been sick for a month, and Eleanor got super awful sick last week and on the heels of the funeral, spiked a 104 degree fever that lasted for 4 days.

I'm so exhausted. So drained.

But now I have a question... My little fever filled mouth breather developed the WORST chapped lips. They split multiple times a day and she looks like a badass cage fighter... I've been putting vaseline on her like it's my job but she just licks it off... On top of how uncomfortable it must be for her, there is soooo much dead skin. How do I get it off?????

Re: MIA for a Bit

  • Aw man, I'm so so sorry. That's awful.
No advice about the lips, Vaseline would be my go-to as well.
Glad to see you back around here, hope things start looking up for you.

I'm so sorry to hear of your loss, BJ.  Praying for you and all of your friend's loved ones.

My LC told me to use lanolin for B's lips.  It soaks in faster than Vaseline and works quickly.  When I put him in the tub, I wash his lips with a wet washrag and when we brush his teeth, I brush his lips.  My dentist told me years ago to lightly brush my lips to remove dry skin and it works wonders, so I'm passing that down to B.  Since we've started, he rarely has dry skin.

ETA: I always put something on B's lips at night too, after he goes to sleep.  That seems to help a lot, especially since he's a mouth breather when he sleeps.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss, what a rough couple of weeks.

As for the lips, what about coconut oil?  Although she'd probably be more likely to lick it off since it smells yummy...but maybe slather it on after she goes to sleep for naps and overnight?
  • I am sorry for your loss. What a rough few weeks you had. Hope everybody feels better . For  chapped lips try to put vitamin E oil - it has been working for me better then vaseline.

  • I am so sorry for your loss. I have never dealt with chapped lips on LO but I would use lanolin.
  • I don't have much advice that wasn't already given, but just wanted to say I'm so sorry for you loss.

Sorry for your loss Bubba, I hope it gets better for you. What an awful few weeks. Aquaphor and lanolin work the best for me.

  • Thanks for the sentiments, and the ideas about the lips, ladies!

    Keep on keepin' on.
