HCG rising after NMC?

Hi Ladies,

I'm so sorry that we all find ourselves here. I'm hoping that one of you might be able to shed some light on HCG numbers after a NMC for me.

I had my first ultrasound on 11/27 and only a fluid filled sac was found. I was 6w 5d at that point and was told that it was not a viable pregnancy. My hcg that day came back at 324. On Friday 11/29 it came back at 280 and on 12/2 it was at 230. My doctors didn't seem worried about the numbers at all, and in fact told me that I didn't need to get monitored from that point on. I pressed and said that I would like it monitored down to zero just for my own piece of mind, and the fact that I am going to be working with an RE moving forward and he won't work with me until it reached zero.

I went in for another blood draw yesterday, 12/9 and just got the results today that my hcg is now at 311. Has anyone had this happen where their numbers drop and then begin to rise and hasn't had to have a D&C? They have ordered another draw for 12/16 and we will make a decision as what to do at that point.

I guess I'm just so afraid of the numbers continuing to rise and having to go through a D&C after going through all the physical paid of the NMC. I'm also terrified of the idea of it being ectopic.

Sorry for the novel, I guess I was just hoping that I might be able to hear some personal experiences, good or bad.

  •  I have heard of this happening, but it didn't happen to me. Mine dropped. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. Keep us posted on what you find out and how you are doing....I am sure others are going through this and any light on the subject could be helpful to all. Hugs!!!

  • Do you know if you have passed the placenta yet? Levels should drop off more once it is passed. Also was your lab work done by the same lab? Sometimes different labs can get different results.

  • Sorry, I guess quote is being difficult. I thought I passed the placenta, but I guess I don't know. I've never been through this before, so when I had several large clots I just assumed that was it. All the lab work has been done at the same place, so hopefully they are accurate. The doctor did call me back last night and said at this point she either thinks it's just a fluke and the numbers will start to go down, or it is leftover tissue and I'll have to have a d&c.
