Anyone else work three 12 hour days a week?

I'm curious as to how your schedule works. I work 3 twelves, 11am to 11pm. The days of the week are varied. It takes up my entire day. So if I work 2 days in a row, I have a good amount of housework to catch up on on my next day off. I feel like I'm barely staying on top of things with housework and laundry. I haven't worked out in quite a while and plan to start again soon, so that's something else to add into the mix. How do you get things done on your days off? Any certain routines?

  • I don't work 3 12's, I work 4 10's. I feel them same because when I do get a day off, all I really want to do is sleep. I don't worry about what I don't get done anymore and just try to spend as much time with DD as I can and work things in to when she naps, that way I don't feel like I'm choosing between housework and her, what doesn't get done will still be there tomorrow.

  • I work 3 12's and 7 hours on the 4th day. I was getting so inundated with house work once DS2 arrived that I hired a cleaner. She comes bi weekly and although it makes the budget tight I would cancel my cable before I would get rid of her now. Having her saves me at least 5 hours a week in work (if not more.) so on my weekday off I do doctors appointments, grocery shopping and cleaning so the weekends are just about family time and laundry! The long days are tough and I do 2 back to back. I am usually in bed right after the kids... But the schedule works for me now that I found the right combination.
  • I work 5 days a week but rarely do I see an 8 hour day... I also travel and am gone several nights a month. A cleaning lady is a must. Mine comes every other week. That way all I really have to focus on is straightening and laundry. I try to do about 15 minutes of straightening before I leave in the mornings and a half hour after DS goes to bed. I'm also extremely organized. Everything has it's place. I find it very manageable this way.
  • Thanks for the replies

  • I mostly lurk on this board but decided to jump in on this one. I work 3 12.5-hour days & 2 9-hour days (hello 55 hour work weeks, ugh). I won't lie, my sink always has dishes in it, my laundry piles up and I can't remember the last time I worked out. Many people have suggested that I hire a cleaning service, which I'm sure would be AWESOME but I just can't see spending money on something like that because I'm cheap. I'm off on Wednesdays & my daughter goes to pre-K so I spend most of that day cleaning (or part of the day cleaning & the rest of the day complaining I'm too tired to finish) & try to finish the rest on my next day off. The cycle starts again every week. My husband pitches in every now & again, although not nearly as much as I would prefer. If you have the funds to do so, go for a cleaning service to take some of the load off your plate. Or make a plan to tackle one thing each day (kitchen today, laundry tomorrow, vacuuming the next day, etc) so your days off aren't marathon cleaning sessions. (I always say I'll do this..apparently easier said than done.)
