snow

What happens when/if it's supposed to snow where you live? Do people freak out or is it no big deal? Here if they call for snow people panic and run to the store to fill their buggies with as much bread, eggs and milk as they can. The funniest part is that our snow is usually just 20 minutes of light flurries.

Re: snow

  • So, I have noticed. Major shift in how people react in recent years, and I think it is directly related to how the news portrays is. They seem to have taken to calling everything a storm. Even though we only get 2-3 inches. I live near buffalo, so snow is really nbd here. But it seems like every other day they are all like "omg, major storm front moving in!" And then if you really watch the forecast we are barely getting anything. I now ignore it all, and figure I will know it is snowing when I look out my window and see it. I have enough random crap in my cupboard that we wouldn't starve for a few days anyway

  • I find the first couple snowstorms people freak out a bit, then ease up unless its like predicted for +12 inches.

  • People pretty much freak out here too. I agree that how the media portrays it also makes a difference. The media here always makes a pretty big deal too.

  • when I lived in Ohio people drove like morons! It's like, come on people! this isn't new!

it's not an issue now that I'm in FL- but people drive with their heads up their asses when it rains.

    Weather and driving- ugh.
  • It depends on how much snow. Usually the first few snow "storms" of the year people get a little anxious. We're in Maine though so we're pretty used to being dumped on:)

  • @chefnicole22 You used to live in Cville, right? Everyone here freaks out at the tiniest hint of snow. Like today, they keep saying it's going to snow, but it's 35 and rainy. All my patients are rescheduling their appointments even though it's fine outside. I think school is closed. I can understand if it's actually snowing, but I don't understand if it MIGHT snow.
Yeah I used to live close to Charlottesville.  Now I'm in Winston-Salem,  where it snows less and people panic more.

  • This is West Michigan.  People go about business as usual unless we get more than a foot.
  • I live in CT, we always get snow, and at least 2-3 huge storms.  People still act like they are not used to this weather, and can not drive during snow.  I work at a grocery store PT and people still mad dash rush the day before like they do not have 4 wheel drive trucks.   Media absolutely creates a frenzy for sales obviously!

  • The first day of a big storm is usually the worst. It's like people get amnesia and forget how to drive in the snow. After the plows get through it's not as bad.
