Ummmm you didn't screw up. If they would've showed up & you would've told them to leave chances are that they would've charged you for not canceling and making them come to your house. I think letting them just get it over with today was a good call even though you weren't prepared for it.

This. Pretty much. He said that the problem was writing the check so he had to go and move money around after work-which is apparently a huge hassle for him-I tried to explain to him that they would charge a trip charge, but he wasn't having it. We've needed this done for months, so I'm glad that it's done with now. I kept pointing out to him that he had plenty of time-from Friday to today-to call and reschedule. He said that he did call to reschedule- this morning ffs. So apparently I'm at fault for not telling them to go away instead of just getting it over with finally. I just didn't think he needed to be so shitty about it and make me feel horrible.
