XP: Santa dilema. Help me solve it.

How do you go about doing Santa when you're never home for Christmas? We always go back to WI to spend Christmas with family. To me it doesn't make sense to drive all the Santa presents from GA to WI and then drive them all back home but to do Santa a week + before Christmas seems like it would loose the magic of waking up Christmas morning to see what Santa brought.

  • During my childhood we always did Christmas (Santa) the weekend before Christmas. We travelled to family on the 24/25 and so we needed to do something before hand. As a child my older brother wrote Santa a letter explaining the situation and asking if he could come early. It was our Christmas. Didn't take the magic out of it for us at all.

  • We were hardly ever home for Christmas. Santa always came where we were but we never got big things from him just our stocking which held about the same amount as a pillowcase. By the time we left our grandparents we'd of eaten the candy and the rest would come back with us.

  • Santa only brings low-key stocking stuffers and when we fly to spend it with the grandparents, they're happy to pick everything up for us.

  • We always travel for Christmas, too, and we open all gifts on Christmas. I order almost everything online and have it delivered to where we are going so we don't have to haul it there. Whatever we can't fit in on the way home, we ship back to us. It's not ideal, but I want my girls to have magical Christmas mornings while they believe in Santa.

  • We are planning to have Santa come while we are away, so when we come home all of the gifts from Santa will be under the tree.  My cousin who lives close by is going to help us out by dropping by and putting the gifts under the tree (we are bribing her by offering her use of our car for a week because she doesn't own one :)
  • Santa only brings one gift for Christmas, which we spend at my MIL's house.  That way we're not bringing up a ton of gifts.

I also have all the gifts for family members sent to her address so they're there when we arrive and I don't have to pack them.

  • We travel.  Santa bring one gift for each kid.  The rest of the presents from Mom and Dad stay at our house and we open when we get home a week later.  They get plenty of presents from our family so it works out.
