what is your favorite party food? *edited*

edited December 2013 in March 2014 Moms
DD2's will be three on Monday we are having her party on Saturday. I will have about 35 people over (DH's familye) and I will need to feed them. I have little energy and little money but I will stick a smile on my face and try. I'm thinking ziti and salsa dip and cake. Other than that I'm lost. It is supposed to snow later in the day so I'm thinking warm munchie food would be good but I will take any ideas you might have. Thanks ladies!! PS sorry about earlier posts I think my computer hates me today

  • We are having DD's party at 3:00 on Sunday, and we're planning on having a veggie tray, cheese/fruit platter, little sausages, chips/salsa, and cake.  I'm hoping this is enough food since it's late in the afternoon, but I'm anxious to see other responses.  What time is your party?

  • LMAO...

35 people is the key factor here. food that feeds a lot... I made antipasto skewers that were a HUGE hit (search for them on pinterest and you'll find a good selection) I'd say 3 skewers a person. and I used 1/2 size skewers with about 7-6 things poked on.

  • Hahaha no worries!

    Baked brie!! Mmmm.

  • @katykatykaty that sounds like plenty of food to me for a 3pm party. My favorite party food is food - I'm super easy to please. @christinerich06 your plan sounds fine to me, but I'd probably add fruit or a veggie option for people who are wanting something really light.
  • Chili is an excellent idea to feed lots on a low budget!

  • Our party is at noon. I debated doing it at 3 so she could have her nap first but we live about 20 mins or 1/2 an hour from his family and they act like we live across the country. It is getting dark around 4 so we went earlier in hopes that they will stay for a little while.

  • I love little caprese salad mini skewers - mozzerella ball, tomato, a basil leaf, and drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar glaze. Or bacon wrapped dates. Those are so delicious!

  • Seriously if you had a bag of cape cod chips and a jar of lays French onion dip, I'd be happy as a clam.... lol.

Our grocery store makes delicious party size pizza, that could be an option. I'd def of a veggie platter for people who want something light and maybe a fruit platter too. Typically I aim for an "entree" (like the ziti and pizza), something light and healthy, something salty, and comfort (like cheese and crackers). And of course the cake would be the sweet
  • There are a lot of easy an cheap crock pot recipes.  Buffalo chicken dip is one of my favorite.  Here is a recipe, but there are lots of varieties.  Have fun!

  • i made these for a party on sunday and everyone gobbled them up.  It's only 3 ingredients but they're quite tasty! the recipe says to cut the pita into rounds, but i just cut up the pita like they were mini pizzas (into slices).  https://www.cabotcheese.coop/recipes/cranberry-cheddar-pita-bites

Is it really a good recipe? I'm always looking for new crock pot stuff.  Do you serve it with bread or crackers?  I wish the chicken didn't have to be pre-cooked and shredded.

use a rotisserie chicken. usually equates to three
    large pieces of chicken.
  • huskymomma94   We serve the dip with chips, usually the scoops.  Shredding the chicken is the most work, but maybe your husband can do that part?  I usually make him do it.  haha.  Here is our recipe.  It is delish and now I really want some!!

Boil and shred 4-6 chicken breasts
    8 ounces sour cream
    16 ounces block cream cheese
    1 packet of ranch powder
1 large block of cheese (cut/cubed)
Put everything into the crock pot and cook for a few hours.  Let me know if you like it!

This is usually our go-to menu for big family parties too. A big pizza, either pasta or frozen meatballs in the crockpot for finger sandwiches, and then usually salad, veggies/fruit and chips and dip/cheese and crackers.

Also, the buffalo chicken dip recipe from above is FABULOUS. We have it every weekend when we watch football. It's great with just tortilla chips, but you could really dip anything in it- pita bread, celery, regular bread, etc.

Do you put the Franks' red hot sauce in too?

  • Nachos!  Take tostitos, spread them on a baking sheet, spread with sauce and cheese.  Bake until the cheese melts.

    And pigs in a blanket.

Ziti sounds like a GREAT entree option.

  • huskymomma94  Yes, we add Frank's red hot sauce, but only 1 or 1 1/2 tablespoons because I don't like super spicy foods.
  • I make my poppers!! Jalapeño peppers sliced in half deseeded filled with ranch cream cheese double wrapped in bacon either grilled or baked! I also make my deviled eggs oh and salsa very yummy!! Oh and I make a brownie/Reece's/cookie bar which is cookie on bottom in pan top with Reece's flat side facing down the. Fill over that with brownie mix and bake for 18 mins yumm;)

  • I'm always a fan of cheese platters with wine and veggie trays. Best part? You can buy them premade at the grocery store and you're done!

  • I love seven layer dip!

Also, I made this spinach dip for my birthday party this summer and it was a HUGE hit! It only made one of the little crockpots full though, so I would double the recipe if you anticipate a larger number of people eating it.

Also also, my mom makes the following cocktail meatballs for all of her gatherings and they get gobbled up in no time.

    2- 16 oz. pkgs. frozen meatballs--thawed
1- 16 oz. can jellied cranberry sauce
    1 cup barbeque sauce

Mix the sauces together and throw everything in the crockpot for 2 hours on high or 4 hours on low. Make sure to stir them so the ones on the bottom don't burn!

    Good luck!!
