How's it going this week?
We had an adventurous weekend! The girls had French toast with unsweetened blueberry applesauce spread on top for breakfast yesterday (that was their introduction to eggs), and omelette with spinach, kale and a sprinkle of cheddar for lunch. Saturday I made the chickpea patties from the BLW cookbook and doubled the recipe so was able to freeze some uncooked patties.
Tonight I'm planning meatloaf and mashed potato. I like my own recipe (I'd leave off the ketchup) better than the BLW cookbook one but mine calls for oatmeal... Since they had toast yesterday, a bit of dry cooked pasta last night, and Cheerios too, maybe I should leave out the oatmeal. Fit those of you who are giving LO what you eat, how often do you give them grains?
They are getting really good with their pincer grip too.
Here's a pic from last week when we tried burgers and "fries." I caught poor E mid-gag.
Re: BLW check in
Here he is loving pears and avocado. He still spits some out after he sucks on it, as you can see, but he's swallowing a lot more than he did last week. (Sorry that they are sideways)
I'm sorry about the skin reaction. Strange that apples would cause that! I've heard that a reaction might not happen until the second or third time a food is introduced.
Pears are a favorite in our house too!
I would start offering him Cheerios or other small pieces to practice on alongside bigger items he can already pick up easily - that way he can practice without getting frustrated.
Kudos for letting him eat at the restaurant - I haven't been brave enough to do that yet.
When you give them broccoli, do you just give them a steamed spear?
I bought the BLW book, but didn't get very far into it. Maybe I'll pick it up again.
It's no longer the recommendation. My pedi said they now believe that earlier exposure may decrease the risk of an allergy. They recommend it be introduced closer to 6 months rather than being delayed at my last appointment.
