Starting Preschool

When will you/did you start your kid at a preschool?  We only have 2 centers nearby, both of which are a day care but run pre-school programs for the kids while they're there.  The one Tucker will end up going to at some point has a few openings for next year, and they will fill up really fast.  2 seems young to me, though, to be in a preschool (both centers start at 2 though so it must be common).  Are there benefits/disadvantages to starting at 2 rather than 3?  I think I'm leaning towards keeping him in an in-home until he's 3 but I just don't knowwwww what to doooo!

The center Cam is currently at goes through 5 so we won't have to move him. I think I have always heard 3 for actual pre school, I think he (Tucker) will be fine in home until then.

  • Dagny will start at 2. But it's a church preschool and it will only be 1 or 2 mornings per week. Nothing all day or anything intense!

  • My oldest who is now four started preschool at two. Her birthdays is at the end of August and she started in September. She only went for three days 2.5 hours each time.
I am a sahm the reason she went that young is because she needed to learn tho desperate, play with others and socialize. it was hard for her but good in the long run.

The twins who will be two at the end of July, will BH go to the same program.

DS will start preschool in the spring, just before he turns 2. It is a preschool program that has a 2-3 class and a 3-4 class. He's starting it before the baby gets here because I want him to have some socialization a few mornings a week, rather than just waiting for me to finish nursing the baby so I can play with him.

ETA: He LOVES it when we take him to preschool tours. Like, he joins right in with the kids and cries when we have to go. If he was more nervous about it, I'd hold off, but he runs away from me when he sees kids playing!

  • I think most places around here take kids at 2years 9months to start preschool. I'm thinking that Cooper will be going to the preschool on my campus for convenience. I really hoped to be done with school by then.
