Is it tacky..... Baby registry

So I'm going to be making my baby registry here soon and we have yet to get our crib and glider; I know we're slacking. But would it be tacky to put it on our registry since the store I'm registering at sells it. Now I don't expect anyone to actually buy it, but hey you never know if a couple people want to go in on a gift or something. So what's your ladies opinion on putting them on the list. Thanks

  • I don't think it's tacky.  I have a glider on my registry but it's a relatively cheap glider.  I would put it on there so that if someone doesn't buy it, you can use the completion coupon you get at the end.

  • I'd say go for it. Like PPs have mentioned, you never know who will get you things and if they don't you can use the completion coupon to buy them. I put the jogging stroller I wanted on ours and was 100% sure we would be buying it ourselves....my ILs took me to get it on Saturday as an early Christmas present. I was really shock but now I'm glad we don't have to worry about buying it.

  • I'm just chiming in to agree with all PP's. Sometimes people chip in on a big ticket gift (i.e. several family members chipped in on a nice grill as a wedding gift for a cousin of mine last year). And if nothing else, you can buy it yourself with the discount afterward!

  • Put it on.  A registry is simple a list of things you would like, not a demand that people buy them.  Like you said, you never know who might go in together and buy a big gift....and if you're like me, I looked at so many cribs I went blind.  If I didn't put it on my registry, I probably wouldn't be sure of the one I picked.

I doubt people would do this with a crib, but anything you have on your registry can be bought with the completion coupon at the end, so it makes sense to have it on there.  I think it's only tacky is if the ONLY things you have on your registry are super pricey things (like all furniture plus stuff like $100 picture frames, keepsake rattles, etc)

  • I don't think it's tacky, but I do think that sometimes furniture and gliders take a while to get, so if someone bought them for your shower, they might not be here by the time LO is born.

  • I put my glider on the registry. Its more for me and my prego brain ti remember which one i want. I have no intention of anyone actually buying it

  • Nah not tacky. My registry was my list for wants/needs. If someone purchased off it, great. If not, I still knew what I needed to buy.

  • I know some people, think its tacky, but I certainly don't. In fact, I put a $450 glider on my registry and SOMEBODY JUST BOUGHT IT!! Doesn't hurt to try...

  • Definitely put it on there! You never know! Mine was $400 and someone purchased it!
  • Thanks ladies!!!!
  • I'm using my registry as more of a shopping list for me, to remember what I need to get for LO. I don't expect people to buy anything off of it, especially the more expensive stuff. Go for it.

  • I put a quite a few big purchases on my registry. I want the discount. I was surprised that someone already bought me a new Mamaroo! So yes...put it in your registry. You never know!!
  • I agree with PP. People like to go in on big gifts and if they don't, you can use the discount to purchase after your showers.
  • I agree with some of the PPs. Use it as your list and if someone buys it great. Also I ordered my crib and dresser in the beginning of October and we still don't have it.

  • Register for everything you need bc most stores will give the mommy a discount off items that she purchases herself from the list
  • Def put your big ticket items on! Most people know that your registry is more like a "wish list" of things that you want. I never feel like "omg, look at the pricey stuff she put on her registry" when I go onto other's registries.

AND like pp have said, you never know - you might have a few people chip in and get one of your big items! I did this for my sister-in-law (all of the bridesmaids in her wedding chipped in) and it was awesome to be able to do that for her!

  • I was thinking the same thing all you ladies are saying, I wouldn't find it tacky if someone else did it. But guess it's just different when you do it yourself I just wanted to make sure :)

I realize I may not have the crib and all that by the time he is here, but honestly he won't be using it for a while anyways so that doesn't concern me to much. But thanks for the heads up!
  • I wouldn't think tacky at all, but I do recall any items I didn't expect or want people to buy, but wanted either discounts or points, I just added it after the shower and before the completion coupon. For me that was mainly breast pump accessories and such.

  • I agree with PPs - not tacky at all. As long as you have a good price range of options, you're fine.  We put plenty of big ticket items on our registry (crib, car seat, glider, etc.) and were actually surprised at what we got.  Items we didn't receive we'll be getting ourselves with the completion discounts :)
