First pump experience went well, but DH gave it a great try giving the bottle with no success. Obviously, we'll keep trying, but it was super frustrating for DH. Lots of screaming and no real sips. Anyone else?
We tried one yesterday, little man just kept spitting the milk out. He wasn't that frustrated, just didn't seem interested. When I took him to nurse though he ate for a long time, so he was hungry. GL!
We did a bottle for the first time yesterday at almost 5 weeks. Pumping was fine. DH tried to give the bottle, but she wouldn't take it. Then I tried and it was fine.
I actually nursed her right before offering the bottle, so she wasn't super hungry, but it was evening around the time she cluster feeds anyway. I think that helped.
DS took his first bottle from my mom yesterday (4w, 1d) because I was out and he needed to eat. She said he took it great. I thought he would be fine since we have used the nipple shield on and off and that's kind of like a bottle nipple. He had no problem getting right back on the boob a few hours later.
DH gave the first bottle at 3 1/2 weeks no problem. I tried a few days later and he wouldn't take it. He took one from my sister Saturday no problem though. He also hates the pacifier so far.
We had no success with ds2 so I wanted to start and keep trying with dd. We tried this weekend (she is just over a month old). She did really well. Avent bottle nipple flow 1 and DH gave it to her while I stayed out of the room.
All the advice I got said 3 or 4 weeks is the ideal time to introduce. We did at 4w2d. It was ok, my mom gave it to her She drank .75 oz and usually she'll do 3oz at the breast (last time we did weighted feed). Today I gave her 1.25 oz and she sucked it down then went back to the breast. We're using tommee tippee bottles
I give bottles of breast milk at night because he doesn't fall asleep taking a bottle and goes back to sleep better. We have had zero issues with him switching back and forth between them at all, luckily! He takes a pacifier, a bottle and the breast:) Maybe my boy is just greedy;)
My son got his first bottle at 1 week, which is not what I planned, but his sister was transferred to a higher level NICU and someone had to feed him when I went to visit my daughter at the hospital (it was an hour away). He loves the bottle. He mainly breastfeeds, but he's lazy and he gulps down bottles quickly.
We gave DD her first on Monday at four weeks. DH gave it to her and I stayed in another room . We will continue to do one bottle a day by DH so she doesn't forget. So far it's going well!
We did the first bottle last weekend at 1 month with husband giving it to him - no issues so far. I have given him a couple as well and he will take it/has not interfered with BF. We have the slow flow/newborn nipple and it still goes too fast so we have to take a lot of breaks and it is still pretty messy!
So I know every kiddo is different but LO is ebf but we did both breast and pumped milk in the bottle since day 2. No nipple confusion, no problem. She couldn't latch well because I was so swollen from the fluids from birth and lost too much weight. But once I was less bloated and we saw a lactation consultant everything has been fine since! I think for the next baby I might do it right away as well even if I don't have to!
Re: EBFers: Who's attempted a bottle?
I actually nursed her right before offering the bottle, so she wasn't super hungry, but it was evening around the time she cluster feeds anyway. I think that helped.
