USA February Babymoon

Hey ladies,

I am needing suggestions on destinations for a Babymoon in February. Be as specific as you can on location/hotels etc. I want to stay in the US, and would prefer somewhere warmish. I'll be 25-26 weeks by then. Is a Babymoon a good idea that far along?
Thanks in advance! :)

Re: USA February Babymoon

  • I think you will be fine on the timing.  I actually think that is an excellent time because, as I remember with my DS, I think that was about the time I felt the best.  MS had passed, but I wasn't too big or uncomfortable yet.

    Suggestions:
Floriday Keys or Key Largo for tropical/warm.
Orlando, Florida - Universal studios and disney world.
San Antonio, Texas will be warm and you can tour historic missions, do the riverwalk, Sea World, etc.  To stay - I like the hyatt hill country resort or the La Cantera or some of the historic hotels like The Menger or The St. Anthony (got married there) or The Emily Morgan.
The Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, but it will be cold.
Lake Tahoe (Hyatt Resort), but it will be cold.
IF DX: DOR & Fragile X pre-mutation carrier
    2011: FSH 13.3 & E 99; AMH 0.54 2nd FSH 6.2 E 40's AFC: 8
BFP from Clomid/IUI ~ Pre-e and IUGR during pregnancy ~ DS born 9/4/12
    Feb./March 2013: AMH less than 0.16 (undectable) and AFC = 4;
BFP from supps ~ DS#2 due May 2014

Great suggestion on San Antonio. We did New Orleans when I was 26 weeks pregnant and it was great. We took Amtrak from Memphis and the journey was a lot of fun. New Orleans has tons to see (even if you aren't drinking) and tons of good restaurants. We stayed at the Omni Royal in the French Quarter - not far from Jackson Square or back to Canal Street to catch the streetcar to head elsewhere in the city. Gorgeous hotel with a rooftop pool. The WWII museum is great, as is taking a horse drawn carriage tour, sitting at Cafe du Monde, checking out the cemeteries, riverboat rides. . .lots to do! We also did a swamp tour and the bus picked us up at the hotel - we didn't have to bother to rent a car while we were there.

February in San Antonio is great but no matter what you do don't go February 12-15. The state music teachers conference is there (10,000+) along with he all-state band choir and orchestra. Hotels will be packed and the riverwalk is awful!
  • Long Boat Key or Anna Maria Island, FL. Beautiful beaches, amazing weather, everything within walking/biking distance, lots of things to see/do. Lots of vacation rentals w/ pools, all the beach gear you need (chairs, umbrella, etc.), bikes, etc. Tons of great restaurants.

  • I think I was 29 or 30 weeks when we went to Florida? My absolute favorite place is Naples, FL. I have a ton of suggestions on where to stay and places to go and eat. Let me know if you're interested, otherwise I won't bore you ;)
  • Hawaii! Not sure where you are located so it may be a far trip. We are planning to go in Feb as well during my 28th week. Maui is amazing, but this time we are checking out Oahu and Kauai.

Other great options are Arizona, Florida, Bahamas or US Virgin Islands?

  • We did Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands for our honeymoon and you don't need passports since its all US territory. I loved both. Easy flights from large airports and usually affordable airfare. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton in PR as well as the Water Club. Both were great. In St. Thomas we stayed at the Marriott and it was incredible. Highly recommend.

We're doing an AZ babymoon in feb when I'll be 31 weeks. Scottsdale and Sedona have some great resorts. The weather should be perfect then for some (easy) hikes and an outdoor maternity photo shoot.

ETA: Our top pics for hotels were:
    - Mariott Camelback Inn
    - Montelucia Resort & Spa
    - Firesky Resort & Spa
    - Sanctuary Camelback Mountain

  • I LOVE the Gulf Coast of Florida - Clearwater Beach - St Pete Beach (there are like 10 little beach towns in between that are cute as hell), Sarasota or St Petersburg.  Lots to do, beautiful weather.  We stayed in Maderia Beach (one of those little beach towns between Clearwater Beach and St Pete Beach over the summer and loved it)

I think that is a perfect time cuz you should be feeling pretty good at that time.

I also agree with this. Anywhere in (well, not literally) Florida would be nice.

  • I'd suggest the Keys as well. Sorry no recs on hotels as we would always rent a house. But the Keys are awesome.

  • Orlando is pretty quiet in Feb, lines at the theme parks wouldn't be too bad. The keys are busy as all get out from Dec-March, though Key Largo always feels "quiet" when I visit.

Gulf cost will be pretty nice that time of year, but as a Floridian I will say that sometimes it does get cold (like actually daytime 40s, too cold to beach it IMO) in Jan and Feb, so I wouldn't totally bank on the weather.

There are some gorgeous springs to visit (itchetuckne, Ginnie springs) in the Gaunesville area as well.

  • I live in AZ and February is a great time of year out here. It will be warming up, but by no means will it be hot. Spring training starts at the end of the month, too.

As for hotels here, I would suggest the ones that @miggg listed and also the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa, the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess and the Westin Kierland Resort.

For Sedona, I highly recommend L'Auberge and the Enchantment Resort.

In Tucson, the Westin La Paloma and the Marriott Star Pass Resort.

We're going to Sausalito/San Fran over Christmas and staying at the Cavallo Point Lodge in Sausalito at the foot of the Golden Gate Bridge. It won't be warm there in February, but it should be in the 60's during the day. If that's not too cold for you, I HIGHLY recommend it. We absolutely love it there.

  • Probably not what you are thinking but I'm planning a trip for around 26-27 weeks ( the latest my health care will let me travel out of country) to Portland. We've never been and both really want to go so it'll be an early anniversary/babymoon trip.

  • Palm Springs has great weather in February, but it's high season so hotel prices can be higher. I'm not sure your budget, but the Parker & the Riviera are both nice. You can check out airbnb or vrbo.com for lots of rentals. There's some new Indian casino resorts you can sometimes find deals at (Morongo, Agua Caliente...)
  • @sammy.k I'd love to hear your Naples suggestions as that's where where we are going for our baby moon! Thanks!

OMG you have to stay at the Camelback in Scottsdale. Most amazing brunch ever. IL's have a second home not far from there and we literally plan our trips to AZ around brunch at Camelback!

  • No suggestions, just super jealous of everyone traveling to warmer places. Looks like we are warming up out of the negative degrees this week... :( heat wave!
I lived on Oahu for a few months in college... loved it! I was a beach bum and lived on floors/ people's couches, so no hotel recommendations, but so much fun!
  • Timing is good in feb. We are going to Naples Florida and are staying with my parents. I can't wait!!

We also went to Puerto Rico for our honeymoon, and *loved* it.  I'm not sure where you're coming from, but for us, flights there were actually cheaper than they would've been to many parts of the US (we're in Ohio).  We rented a condo rather than a hotel room, which also saved some $ as we didn't have to eat out every meal.  I'd recommend checking out the El Yunque rainforest and Old San Juan.
