June 2014 Moms

what is your exercise routine?

What are you doing to stay fit ladies?

I ran and did pregnancy strength training and yoga videos with DS2, but this time I have nothing. In nearly 12 weeks, I haven't worked out a day. Between the snow and the holidays, I have been crazy lazy. I need motivation! What do y'all do?

  • I have been running, walking and doing Jillian Michael's videos at home. I would recommend getting a treadmill. My husband bought me one last pregnancy so I wouldn't have to worry about running on snow. It has saved me! We have a tv hooked up with headphones so I can walk/run and watch mindless tv. It's my "me time" while the kids are napping. You can find used ones on craigslist that are more reasonable. Ours was $200.

I've been working with my trainer twice each week since finding out! I trained with her for two years prior to my wedding, so we go back quite a few years. Coincidentally she specializes in prenatal and is a semester away from becoming an RN, so I feel lucky to be in such good hands! It's not cheap, but since my diet mainly consists of crackers and ginger candy most days, I'm saving money on food ;) No, but truthfully, she gives me a really good rate since we've known each other for years and she knows that unlike her wealthy clients, I can't really afford the big bucks! I also try to walk the dog for at least an hour once a week... Perhaps a prenatal yoga class or two is in my near future?! I'd like to try that too! For as craptastic as I've felt, getting out and exercising has been the only part of the day (on the worst of them) that I've felt really good!

Edit: early morning typos on the little phone keyboard!
  • I used to walk the dog a few times a week but now that the temps are freezing he refuses to go outside unless it is to poop. Now I just play around with the kids.

  • I go to the gym 2-3 days per week. Between vomiting and lack of energy I just don't have it in me to go in the mornings before work like I used to, and I've never been good at going after work. I do mostly elliptical (the one that more mimics running and has less of an up and down climbing motion) but occasionally bike or use the stair master. The smell of chlorine has been making me nauseous but I'm hoping to get back to swimming to since its so low impact.
I haven't touched a weight machine since getting pregnant and thats always been my least favorite. On Friday my OB told me she'd rather see me do that than cardio because she wants me to build up my core to haul these babies around so I guess I have to go do that again. I don't wanna!

I walk a lot at work.
  • I refused to do anything until I was out of the first trimester.  I was so paranoid i'd shake it out or do something wrong..(I'm crazy..I know).  So I started with a trainer who specializes in prenatal workouts to give me some pointers.  I used to be fairly active and I would always push myself too hard, so I wanted to make sure I did this write.  Walking is good, as long as it's safe out (right now its snowing here so I may not walk today).  Upper body weight lifting is good, just not doing too heavy weights.  Lower body activities I do on a step with low weights as well.

I have been doing crossfit 3-4 times a week and occasionally run. I am so tired but find days I don't exercise I feel more wiped out so I keep on going. Plus I love it (crossfit not running, I just tolerate running)

  • I still teach group fitness classes 3-ish days per week and usually go a 4th day if I have time.  Have just scaled back my intensity a bit and take water breaks during the hour class which I never did before.
  • I've been really bad.. Haven't done any exercising yet. I plan on doing pre-natal yoga DVDs.. Maybe next week.

  • Chasing my toddler is my main form of exercise lately.  I'm usually pretty good at walking daily and/or doing something else like weights or a yoga DVD, but between the snow, freezing temps, lack of sunlight, and morning sickness I've been really slacking.  :(

  • My doctor told me to take it easy until I got to the second trimester (we did fertility treatments).  So I was just walking my dog 1-2 times per day.  Now I'm starting to look into either swimming or  elliptical (I'm still hesitant to get back into running).  But of course I'm finding that some people are anxious about pregnant women in chlorinated pools . . . ..

Which prenatal yoga video do you use? @MrsRage
  • Before getting pregnant I would walk 3-4 miles a day about 3 days a week. I was able to lose 45 lbs doing that and watching my diet. Since pregnant, snow, and back to substitute teaching I've fell off the wagon big time. Plan on joining planet fitness near me ($10 a month) and get on the treadmill and elliptical. You cross fit ladies I admire, especially pregnant!!

  • The office bathroom is on the other side of the office from my desk.  It's a lot of walking.  That's my exercise.  And running around after C on the weekends.

  • Yogaglo.com prenatal videos! The best workout for pregnancy IMO. Lots of walking, and I'm also in yoga teacher training so every few weekends I have a few pretty intense heated yoga classes. I never WANT to do it but always feel so much better when I do!

I've done a few videos from YouTube. One was the WTEWYE workout (have since ordered the full length DVD), Walk Away the Pounds (the 2 mile walk) and one from PopSugar/FitSugar. I was a Jillian Michaels devotee before finding out I was pregnant but was too scared/tired in the first trimester. Not that I'm feeling more confident with the pregnancy, I want to workout more but it's so cold that I don't feel like going to the gym! At home workouts are my answer to that right now.

My only issue has been that the smell seems to provoke my nausea. And since throwing up in the pool is generally frowned upon....
Either way, I would think a non-chlorinated pool would be more of an issue. Swimming is great exercise when pregnant!

  • Um, I looked up prenatal yoga classes last week...then slept away a cold all weekend long.  If I could get over the hump with MS, I'd love to at least do something low-impact; my hips and lower back are starting to kill me from all the time spent on the couch!

  • I work out about 5 days a week. I'm exhausted, but I push myself to go at least for 30-40 minutes if nothing else. I avoid the treadmill now tho! I'm so paranoid I will trip and fall and hurt the baby! (I'm THAT klutzy girl!) Tonight is the first time I am going to attempt a class (either Zumba, lower body toning, or aerobics) in 2 months. I'm kind of nervous!
  • I walk about 40 minutes a day (to and from work) and try to get my butt to the gym at least twice a week for some gentle cycling. I often fail at the gym part of my plan.
  • Walking..maybe every other day..lol but about a mile and a half....

I train (20 mins cardio, 40 mins weights) 3 times per week.

And starting pre-natal yoga this friday - my 4th day of exercise.

  • I wish I was exercising more, I joined a gym to stay fit when I found out I was pregnant and I think I've been 4 times in almost a month now, my goal is to go at least 3 days per week! I need to get my big butt in gear!
  • Thanks for the feedback ladies! :)

  • I walk to the bathroom, fridge and bed. Outside of chasing DS around and work I really haven't had much time for anything else. I do my best to get to yoga, but that is maybe a class or two a week, tops:( Since I don't have the energy for much physical activity I am trying to eat really healthy. Just had a snack of celery and hummus instead of chips. I know if I give into the junk cravings all the time I will turn into a whale and I don't want that (am already creaking out about weight/size changes).
  • I try to run a few times a week (3-4x is good enough).  I run a loop around my neighborhood which is 3 miles.  Strength training when I feel like it, which is never.  I started incorporating walks into my lunch break because it feels amazing and I'm not exercising enough without them!

    Hi :)

I'm focusing mostly on my back, arms and shoulders (bicep, tricep, row, pull down).

    Today for example I did:
    20 mins (1.5 mins incline 0, 3 mins incline 7 walking at 3.7mph)

    3 sets of:
    20 air squats
10 squats on bosu with 5 pound bicep curls
    20 Lat pull down

    3sets of:
10 modified squats (with bar no weight over my head)
10 squats with crossing weight (floor left, air right)
60 reps on step with 5 pound bicep curls

    Then 12 mins on elliptical
    Done
  • 5 days a week I change out of sweats, shower, put on make up and make it into the office. I consider that an impressive feat. Every once in a while I glance over at my treadmill and say... Maybe tomorrow.
  • Does jumping out of bed and running to the Toliet to pee/puke count? Lol.
I jog almost every morning except Sundays.
Babysat quite a lot. So running after kids counts too lol
  • I run 6 days with a max of a 10K for length. I also do strength 3X per week. I ran marathons prior to getting pregnant so I was conditioned to run 20+ miles at that time. I have found that working out actually makes me feel much better than on the days that I don't. I tend to be more nausea on my off days than on the days I run.
