Clogged duct? Hopefully...

So about a month after LO was born when my boobies were always swollen I felt like a bumpy lump in my left breast right near my armpit. I kept feeling it but only when my breasts were engorged. The rest of the time nothing. Once my boobs stopped engorging themselves I sort of forgot about or assumed it went away. Last night I accidentally fed LO off the right side wice so by morning my left breast was rock hard and sure enough there was the lumpy thing again. Is this just a breast feeding thing? It feels like abunch of peppercorns or peas all globbed together. Sorry for the visual but I'm hoping it's just a duct or something. TIA for any input.

  • I don't want to discourage you from getting it checked out (because I think it's always good to err on the side of vigilance with that sort of thing), but I had something similar that went away after I stopped pumping and my boobs starte going back to "normal".

  • Thanks. I will definitely bring it up at my next physical but since it only shows up when my boobies are swollen I figured it was likely a BF'ing thing.

Yeah, I get that too when engorged. I think it is the milk built up in the duct, and once you nurse and it empties it's gone. I can definitely feel lumps when I'm full. ETA: it also feels like a clump of miniature peas to me too. My mom had a mastectomy due to breast cancer, so I take the boobs seriously. However, this is my third time BF and I've had that each time. It never was an issue and since I BF my first 15 years ago, I have never had an abnormal mammogram.

  • That happens to me when I'm engorged too, but it feels really hard.  I haven't noticed the peppercorn/peas feeling.  Mention it to your OBGYN or doctor though to be on the safe side.  Don't mess around with the hoobs.

I'd put a Movember mustache fail, but then
you'd all have to look at it until February.
  • I would still bring it up with your doc. But I had this when I was EP it was kind of painful too. Went away once I stopped pumping.
  • I get it on my right boob (my higher milk producer), towards my armpit as well. If I get engorged it is sore like a bruise, but goes away once I feed on that side. I do notice the lumpy bumpy feeling as well when I'm really full.

  • I get hard spots in my boobs when they become engorged.  After draining the boob, they are gone.  If it's still there when the boob is empty, I would check it out.  I have a few cysts and fibroadenomas that are always there, but you can only feel them when the boobs are empty.
  • that happened to me the first couple weeks. I was freaking out about it because I couldn't get it to go away, but once S figured out how to latch on better it went away so I'm attributing it to clogs. If it doesn't go away when C eats, I'd definitely ask my doc about it, or if you're concerned.

  • Same as PPs.  I get them on the left boob and they can be really sore until I nurse.
